My call with Magic jack now last for 33 seconds
I need a help on this. My calls now terminates after 33 seconds of initiation. The only calls that is normal is the one made to a fellow majicjack user or majic jack support number. Magic jack live support chat couldn't help my situation. Can someone help me in finding a solution to my problem?[/b]

Try disabling SIP ALG in your router. That should do it. And if not, a little search would bring you here -

Pendeing ack on a few calls
This just started on 24 and today 25.
I'm getting the pending ack on a 2 callers. I call them back and it's fine.
I don't have this option in my router.
I have a linksys WRT54GS, Thin client running MJ, mine and my wife's computers. I run ethernet cables, wireless is disabled. Done the port FWD and QOS for MJ.
Running the latest firmware from cisco/linksys ver 7.50.8.
Under Apps and Gaming I have Port Triggering.
.......................Triggered Range.............Forwarded Range
Application Start Port__ End Port__ Start Port__ End Port__ Enable_
Could I do something here?
DD-WRT or Tomato, what is the better one? looks confusing, which bin file to run first, don't want to "Brick" my router, I'll have to read and re-read the install docs.
Or just getting a new router?
The linksys WRT54GS on ebay are starting off a 5 bucks, I got mine at Wal-Mart in 09 and it was 99 bucks.
With all said and done, time involved in the linksys might just be simpler to get a better router. What is a good router to look for?
Thanks
John

Re: Pendeing ack on a few calls
I checked your router here http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database and it looks like it's supported by dd-wrt. I use many different voip services and all work fine with dd-wrt. I played around with tomato awhile ago but prefer dd-wrt. Double check to make sure your router is supported before flashing it with a 3rd party firmware. Linksys routers are known to have problems with MJ but I have read many posts over the last 2 years from people who switched to tomato or dd-wrt and their MJ problems were cured. Good luck and keep us posted.nighthawks wrote:This just started on 24 and today 25.

Re: Pendeing ack on a few calls
Every piece of Linksys hardware I ever bought has failed me. I bought a cheap 4-port w/wireless Netgear router at BestBuy years ago thinking it would be disposable and it has been great and is still my main router even with a 24-port switch plugged into it handling most of the internal traffic. And it does have decent firmware that I can tweak.nighthawks wrote:What is a good router to look for?

BTW - Port forwarding did nothing to solve the 33 second issue for me. I even DMZ's my whole machine and it didn't help. Nothing helped except disabling SIP ALG in my router.

Heres the files it says I need.
Bottom of my router says this Linksys WRT54GS v7.0
I've flashed to ver. 7.50.8 from cisco/linksys site.
Status on the routers login reads v7.50.8 build 001, Oct. 5, 2009,
I made a backup of v.7.0, would I need to go back to it first?

I'll have to read this on how to run these
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Installation
What's the first one to run, second, thrid, so on.
Maybe it looks harder than it is, just wish there were 1 or 2 files at the most to make it easier to install. Went on Wiki site about this and it looks confusing to me, I'll just have to take the time to read this site and go from there.
Any insight that would help me on speeding this flashing up would be great.

Re: Pendeing ack on a few calls
I hear ya, well I got MJ when I lived in Louisville KY, moved to Savannah TN on OCT 1. I have Charter ISP @ 16megs. When I got MJ this pasted July I got a thin client, didn't want to tie up mine or my wife's computer, I already had the linksys router. What's the frustrating about this is while in KY I never messed with anything, never touched the router, just hooked up the TC and plugged MJ in and reg. it and left it do it's thing. It ran like a champ.Diggs wrote:Every piece of Linksys hardware I ever bought has failed me. Got to TN, got a new number 731 area code but ended up getting a Jackson prefix 215, Savannah prefix is 924, and Jackson is about 59 miles from Savannah, local people calling me ends up being long distance for them, this is a pain. All the other prefix were even farther from Savannah.
Anywho, don't care for wireless that much, maybe look at the Netgear wired routers. Do some searching on "routers with magicjack" see what comes up.
Thanks for the input..

Those should just be different builds of dd-wrt. All I do to flash my router is save the dd-wrt file to my desktop. Login to my router and click on firmware upgrade (may be different for linksys can't remember) then click browse, find the file on my desktop and go with it. My router had tomato on it when I bought it but have since tried out all the builds available to me and settled on
Firmware: DD-WRT v24-sp2 (10/10/09) mini.

Re: Pendeing ack on a few calls
I also have Charter and since the beginning until a week or two ago MJ has been plug and play both on an old desktop PC and on a thin client. The last "Lucky You" downgrade is what caused my problems I believe. They just can't leave well enough alone. The more they "Lucky" me the worse things get. Seems they never beta test anything. Just throw out the changes on the unsuspecting "customers" and don't bother to inform your technical support department. You would think someone on the technical side of MJ would have some professionalism.nighthawks wrote:I hear ya, well I got MJ when I lived in Louisville KY, moved to Savannah TN on OCT 1. Wireless? - Heh - Seems you don't have kids. Four laptops, PS3, iPhones, etc. Not sure how we'd get by without it.
After you complete the search for your router and some matches appear click on the one you want to use and save it. If you don't need anything special for dd-wrt usually the mini will work fine. The different matches that show up offer some different features that's why some are larger than others. Hope this helps.nighthawks wrote:If I understand this right the above file is all I need? where is the link to download it from DD-WRT.COMsabresfan wrote:Those should just be different builds of dd-wrt. i have had both uverse and magic jack working together for the last 3 months until now. any time i get an incoming call i get pending ack and it drops after 30 sec. i have searched for 2 weeks now and have tried different port forward methods, but none work. the only thing that work was to put my pc in dmzplus mode which i dont want to do cause i cant connect to my xbox and its just not safe. also there is no sip alg setting on this 2wire model. does anyone know any solution for this?

I don't have this problem as bad, there's only a few callers that are affected with this problem so for now just watching, if it get worse I'll look into my options as stated below.rbeyer wrote:i have had both uverse and magic jack working together for the last 3 months until now. any time i get an incoming call i get pending ack and it drops after 30 sec. i have searched for 2 weeks now and have tried different port forward methods, but none work. the only thing that work was to put my pc in dmzplus mode which i dont want to do cause i cant connect to my xbox and its just not safe. also there is no sip alg setting on this 2wire model. does anyone know any solution for this?
Try this if you have it in your router.
Disabling SIP ALG in your router.
I have a linksys and don't have this, I'll have to flash it with the DD-WRT to this 3 party firmware. You can also look at Netgear routers, these have the options to disable the SIP/ALG.
Hope this helps.
