Well, the mJ site, of course claims that mJ is compatible with Mac. However, if you go to try to upgrade your mJ, and you bought it before March 8, the site warms you repeatedly that the upgrade could break your mJ.
So, any update still available for older mJ's? Has anyone with an older mJ gone ahead and tried the new Mac update anyway?
Mac upgrade for those who purchased before 3/8?

GuyOnTheAir,
Boy - if MagicJack posts a warning, if I were you I would stay clear of the upgrade. They never warn, or give advice about anything. So if they say don't I would be inclined to stay way clear of it.
PS - the little tid-bit I read by Dan (the magic man) on DSLreports indicates that the new MJ's are completely different hardware. Wonder how many hours you would have to spend in a Chat session to purchase an upgrade to the new hardware. If you are under thirty, you may live long enough to talk them into selling you a hardware upgrade (maybe).

I tend to agree with you, there, HolmanGT! That's why I've been unwilling to try it on mine. Although I really want to... Is there no warranty on the mJ device? What if I tried to upgrade it and it fried it? Would they not replace it?
Finally, decided to chat 'em up a bit today:
Finally, decided to chat 'em up a bit today:
Dory: Hello, how may I help you?
GuyOnTheAir: Hello. The site claims that mJ is compatible with a Mac. And that there is a Mac upgrade available. But that Mac upgrade says it's only good if you purchased your mJ after March 8. Is there any update or anything for people who purchased before March 8?
Dory: Thank you for bringing that concern to us, GuyOnTheAir.
GuyOnTheAir: ?
Dory: Please wait while I check that for you
Dory: Thank you for patiently waiting, GuyOnTheAir.
Dory: Yes. However Mac upgrades does not work with the New magicjack because they are already upgraded.
GuyOnTheAir: What about the old mJs?
GuyOnTheAir: ?
Dory: One moment please.
Dory: Thank you for patiently waiting, GuyOnTheAir.
Dory: The old magicJack are as good as the new one, the only difference is the new magcJack is already upgraded for Mac.
Dory: Is there anything else I may help you with today?
GuyOnTheAir: But what if I have an old mJ that I want to upgrade to work with a Mac? How do I do that?
Dory: To upgrade your magicJack to work on MAC, you must do so with your magicJack plugged into a USB port on a WINDOWS computer.
GuyOnTheAir: But, if I go to upgrade, there is only one option, and that is to download the mac upgrade for mJ's purchased after March 8...
Dory: Please the link below to download the MAC upgrade it will reinstall the entire software of your magicjack.
Dory: http://support.magicjack.com/hybridizer/macUpgrade.html
GuyOnTheAir: Okay. Great. Thanks!
Dory: You're welcome.
GuyOnTheAir,
Well if that is the upgrade you needed that has to be one of the most painless Tech Chats I have ever read or heard of.
Was it what you needed?

Well, honestly, I didn't need any of it at all. My mJs are older, but I'd already upgraded them when I first got them, and they've worked fine in Mc OS 10.5.1, but magicJack kept saying there was a new firmware coming. But, when it came, there didn't seem any way to actually use it. So, I wanted to make sure I had the latest code...
Unless they've changed something in hybridizer, I guess I'm up to date.
Which makes me ask, any way, on a PC or Mac to tell what "version" of mJ software you have? I hear there have been updates and such, but I don't see a way to determine what you already have.

The only way I know is to go look at the files in the MagicJack folder, I think it is called MJUSB or something like that. On my XP, Vista or Thin Client it is 1.73.4153.2910.
PS - Version 1.73.4153.2910 is the version of the down-loadable upgrade file. I don't have a clue what all this stuff on the advertisement side of the Softphone about "Beta 4" means and it has been saying that for a long time.

Reply to the Poll.
This should be very interesting considering how the Apple folks are pretty much left to their own devices on this forum or DSLreports for that matter.
My Vote was for PC only. I don't have any Apple products and don't plan to anytime soon.
WoW am I impressed with myself, I responded to this, what could prove to be a very interesting poll, and I didn't "Apple Bash" once. A big pat on the back for me, now I have to go see my shrink.

I have until the end of the month before I have to decide to either return it or ask for a new one.GuyOnTheAir wrote:Maybe I should make a poll for people who claim to actually own a Mac it would work on, to find out if they use it on it, if they can. lol
