:D Congratulations Jacksondale. I could be wrong (god knows I often am) but I have a sneaking suspicion that several of those complainers work for the competition, and are trying to scare away the newbies. I can honestly tell you that I had severe trepidations after reading the "experiences" described on this bb.
After installing the MJ, I find it hard to believe that even a technotard would have a hard time with the installation.
As for the useless "help desk", anyone who has had to call for help, and spoken with some idiot, who speaks terrible/unintelligable english, and can barely read the screen in front of them...well that's pretty much the experience with most software packages nowadays. I usually hang up on them, and figure it out by myself. With MJ, at least we have this bb, which is a tremendous aid, and the FAQ page on the MJ site.
For a start up product, with the expertise of the founders, I think that they are doing a great job.
This is one company that I would love to buy stock in.

Ease of installation success is highly dependant on your computers BIOS, installed applications, USB hardware and drivers. Most won't have a problem, but for some, it requires lots of tweaking.

Problems solved by getting new MJ replacement

Post by baddog »

I had a number of issues with my MJ when I got it and tried to deal with the support people, which was a nightmare.
After reading many post I saw where to write Dan and He turn me over to Richard. He said that he would send me a new one.
I tried it last night and it worked ok somewhat on wireless, but worked fine with Ethernet direct connect and at my office worked fine, Direct connect.
Some phones worked with MJ, some ring but no have no caller ID and the cheap GE one I bought does both without a problem. So not all phones work the same.
It just took a month to get a new one and spend weeks trying to get the first one working, So I do know the frustration lots of people encountered. I had new hobby and I was going to get that little thing working if it was the last thing I ever did, which the amount of time I put into was 6 hours a day. I've see others doing the same on this board. Why not on MJ forum if they had nothing to hide, be up front, Get their tech's involved, people like that

At one point I could call but could not be heard, that was the best I could do, forgetting the no ring or caller Id thing.
There may be a batch of MJ that have problems and some batches that are fine.

The problem is the way tech support is trained, they are trained to fix working MJ''s and no matter what I tried to explain about the errors that were popping they were unable get off the script. I notice that people with working MJ like to hang around and wonder why others complain.

That is what forums are for, getting help and sharing. Not attacking and wonder if there is a conspiracy to put them out of business. Maybe if the hype wasn't as strong, some people would be less upset. Like the Wonder Map which was not so wonderful. Anyway, I hope this helps the people that just sit out there wondering why everyone is not happy, which there is no product that doesn't have problems and when you sell to the home market you better have a product that working on all machines. Video card companies have the same problem trying to work with many different configurations. Also if it does not work with Itunes / IPODS your just asking for problems. So if you really support MJ why don't you write Dan and tell him that he needs to get it together and all this super hype stuff and no (official Forum) makes them look fly by night and you just love and are willing to die for this little box and it's getting harder and harder to spend hour after hour on the boards fighting off complaining people, even though your's works and you have no experience in solving problems you now have friends to talk with wondering if together what is happening. For me it was $48 bucks if it keeps working fine, I've put my it in and this is my last time here, unless it doesn't work again.

:D Sorry about your experience. I have no doubt that some people have to deal with bugs. However, I highly doubt that based on the percentage of complaints to congrats, that this is a true representation of overall experiences with MJ. I hope that your issues get resolved with a minimum of indigestion. GOOD LUCK!

LET'S HEAR IT FROM THE SUCESS STORIES TOO!

Continued success story

Post by Agent_86 »

Hi all
Just checking in, and re-confirming still working and still happy with my MJ

I also noticed that the voice mail -email notifications seems to be working well also now, however Vmail does not appear to give me any indication that I have incoming mail on the MJ software interface itself.

But the voice quality is great, and a couple more weeks of use and I'm cancelling my Vonage service.

Happy phoning.

:D Congrats! I've been running MJ on my deskop and my laptop. I'm happy to report that I have had no problems with either. I've used the laptop w/MJ at hotspots (Starbucks, library, et al) with no problems.

I agree with you - it would be nice to have a message alert on the MJ panel. The e-mail alert works fine, but could be simplified.

In a few weeks, I'm going to send an MJ to my in-laws in Taiwan. We'll see how that works out...

Good luck...

I have been very pleased with my MJ and have had reliable service since I got it about three months ago. Since I couldn't port my number and a few other features MJ lacks (like turning off MJ voicemail), I have ViaTalk as my primary service. ViaTalk works great for me also, not like my disastrous experience with voip.com.

I am encouraged that many new MJ features are coming "soon" and just hope I live that long!

I had a lot of challenges with mine. it would not load on my desktop. trying to deal with tech chat was exhausting.
But thanks to the good people on this forum that really wanted to help, i got an hp thin client and now it works just great on that.

so I went from a very troubled start to an extremely happy customer.

Being from Canada, I didn't want to be left out. lol I knew when I bought MJ that it would never replace my land line. I wanted it for two reasons, I pay $45.00 a month for a long distance bundle and I am on the road quite often. I haven't cut my long distance bundle yet, still doing some testing and tweaking, not with the MJ but trying to find a cordless phone where the mic volume isn't too low. As for traveling, all is well and it beats running up a cell phone bill.

I guess what I am saying, MJ has lived up to what I expected. I knew it couldn't replace my land line, but in the not so far future we will tell our grandchildren about land lines! And we will tell them we were the first to have an internet phone. Of course they will never believe us. lol But every new invention has a starting point, and we are part of it. The MJ is good now, and will be great in the near future.

Food for thought, the Wright brothers had their first flight in 1903. 54 years later in 1957 the Soviet Union launched Sputnik 1 into space. Just think were we will be with this technology in 54 years.

Thanks for listening.

 Hi Scott,

Isn't it amazing! After all these years, all their pros, and all their money, MS still can't publish without flaws! So why criticize a startup with new technology and a very promising future?

Pointing out, and discussing problems and shortcomings is great. That's how they get solved. And, the promise, well, that's how technology advances.

Long live dreamers!!!

Just got mine in today.... I was hesitant after reading some of the problems... but thought "why not" ...
SAWEET!!!! less than 2 min, I was yakking with my mom! I set it up on laptop wireless.... with XP. The sound is PERFECT.
YEA.... get rid of that $45 a month landline. I'll keep the cell & have my MJ forward to that when I'm not at home.
Thanks MJ!!!!
