Major Static on Forwarded Calls

Post by BobK »

I have been having this Major static problem. I have Magic Jack set up to forward to my cell phone. When a customer calls from another cell or traditional land line, they hear Loud static before my phone starts to ring, during ringing, and when i answer. I hear it also. Its so bad, people usually hang up before i can even answer. This started a few weeks ago. First I thought it was my cell, bought a new cell, then realized the "intermittent" problem was only on calls forwarded from my magicjack number.

Did the Tech Chat... these people are useless. Have over 8 hrs on chat, 15 different people. They are clueless and useless.

Here is what i know.

* If i turn off call forwarding, and calls go to voice mail. Bad static
* With Call forwarding to my Cell, if i call my number from another
magicjack, calls are clear
* If i call from my verizon line, static problem is loud and ruins the call
* If i call from another cell, same static problem.
* This happens with my computer off, MJ unplugged, so can not be a problem on my end.
* I have other MJ's, same problem with static.

When I explain this to tech chat, they start sending upgrades, asking about routers, etc. I explain i did all that, and it happens with MJ Unplugged! They are unbelievably horrible. I can not take this much longer.

Anyone else experiencing this? I am ready to port my number away from MJ to Ooma.

thanks

While I don't have a technical fix (but do agree that its something in the MJ/Ymax network causing the static), may I suggest that you get a Google Voice number which, by its very nature, is set up for call forwarding. BTW, I understand that you can now even port a number to Google Voice.

I have multiple offices and rather than have people calling all over the universe looking for me, they just call my GV number and it rings everything - both offices, cell phone, and in the evening and on weekends my home landline. If I'm in a different location, I can even add that landline in a snap. Works like a charm and best of all, its FREE.

Only cell phone numbers can be ported.

I do have a few GV accounts, but this number is on 5000 business cards and have been using it for over a year and a half for my business. 99% of the time, i forward to my cell phone. You wouldn't believe how bad the static is, Loud cracking.. One option is to port to Ooma and get premire service to be able to forward calls.
Thanks
