No ring or Caller ID

Post by tharp94896 »

Had MJ for a 1 1/2 months and had it plugged to a phone jack which enabled the wireless phone in kitchen to be used as a central wireless hub. All worked well with the ringer and caller ID and then on Feb 1, 2011 was the last call that I got a ring/caller ID info on. The cordless can still be used to call out on and can even be used to answer as long as you are by the computer to see the MJ screen tell you a call is incoming. What changed? I even used my sons MJ box and it did the same thing. Already tried MJ support and they were no help.... Nothing was changed on the phone as far as the Tone setting and even tried different usb ports and with/without the extension cable. Help!

Ringer/CID

Post by nighthawks »

Don't use the Ext cord at all, make sure MJ is pluged into the back USB, don't use any others. Check in crtl. panel, system, device Mgr. goto USB Root Hubs, make sure Power Save are uncheck.

Take a look at your sound settings on MJ softphone, click Menu then down to Volume/headset control make sure your Telephone is checked, move the sliders some if they are set to low.

Also check out your sounds on control panel.

As for CID I run Magicfeatures you can check this out here.

Is the cordless base station plugged directly into the mJ?
Or is the mJ plugged into your house phone wiring?
Is the cordless base station the only phone plugged into the mJ?
Have you tried another corded phone to see if you get the same problem?
Do you have a powered USB hub that you can try your mJ with?
Have you tried the cordless phone on another service, like your neighbor or family members phone line to make sure the cordless phone is working properly?

If you are plugged into the house wiring the mJ might not have enough power to send the CID and ring to your cordless, especially if you have more than just that one phone connected to it. Sometimes using a powered USB hub can solve this issue by providing more usable power to the mJ.

With more info there might me some other suggestions.

Never had a problem with the phone ringing, but the following 100k ohm solution fixed my caller ID problem:

MagicJack does only provide the number on the caller ID. MagicFeatures will add the name function on the 50 numbers you put in speed dial. I have found it to work spotty on non speed dial numbers, but haven't had a lot to really matter.

I will try the different suggestions. Ok, I have to say something was changed and don't know because like I said, the MJ worked great and did ring thru my cordless phone that was not hooked directly to the MJ box. When it was working right, the MJ box had the extension and was plugged into my house phone jack and the cordless phone was in the kitchen. Yes, I did get ringing on incoming calls and also had caller number. I can take the cordless phone and hook it directly to MJ box and it will ring but no caller number. I will keep trying...lol... thanks for the suggestions....

no ring or caller ID

ok..... wow, after some investigating and thinking...lol... I found the problem to my question. To sum up the problem, I had plugged into the house phone line thru a jack by my computer where MJ was plugged into. All the house phones would ring and show called Number (i know not ID) and all was good and I even used the pigtail usb. Then one day no ring from the house phones so I plugged directly into the MJ and then got a ring and CID on the single phone or a cordless would even work. So, got to thinking I could still hook into my house phone jack but nothing would ring or show CID except for my computer. Well, we have fiber optic phone system provided by the phone, computer, and cable company and I went to the box outside and unplugged only the phone line from the plug in jacks and guess what.... all works now..... Seems like there must have been an interference once they turned off the phones line into the house from the fiber optic system... Go Figure...!!!!!
