I picked up a T5700 with 1ghz processor 256 mgs ram and want to upgrade to 4 gig HD to run a full version or even a small version of windows XP. With the HD installed The unit will not recognize the usb cd rom. It says invalid system disk or something like that and press any key to continue. Could someone shed some light as to a way around this please. With the unit booting off the hard drive it starts to load xp which was installed on it already and stops at the screen where the white line goes across. I have about 4 of these I need to upgrade with hard drives and xp and also a wireless usb device. Thanks in advance.
PS
By the way I know the usb did work because when i first got the t5700 i reinstalled the xpe software from HP with no problems.

Did you take steps to make the microdrive appear as a fixed drive? If your running XPe you'll need to do this. Sad Times Ahead for this Obamanation !!!! Psalms 109:8
Im trying to use the hard drive and load windows xp pro not xpe. Also on another note it seems like some drivers might be missing or something. I loaded the factory XPe image from HP last week using a external dvd-rom drive and it loaded the new software no problem. I took out the stock flash drive and installed my 4 gb hard drive and of course it says invalid system disk but thats an error im getting for the usb dvd-rom not the hard drive. I put back in the original flash drive and went into XPe and followed the instructions to disable EFW. After going into HP login manager and changing the user to administrator and the password to the same I went into EFW config and clicked commit data and rebooted. Now it wont log in as Administrator or user. OK no problem I thought so I took my dvd-rom drive plugged it in set the bios to boot from usb to load the factory XPe from hP and still getting the message non system disk. I think I may be missing a driver or something because now after loading stock XPe and trying to load stock Xpe again it doesnt detect or recognize or like my usb dvd rom or the cd in it. Can someone help please? Thanks again for any help

Booting off a USB CD or hard disk is a function of BIOS, not of the OS. I would say that either there is a problem with your external CD drive or the Windows disk you are using. Download any free LiveCD, like most any Linux distribution) and see if you can boot that up, if it boots, then your Windows CD is probably damaged. If it does not boot then you might have a bad external CD drive, test it on another computer to be sure.georgie1 wrote:Im trying to use the hard drive and load windows xp pro not xpe. And btw, a full install of XP with just 256MB of RAM may be problematic for you. I suggest you look into a version of XP called microXP, it can load in a system with as little as 48MB of RAM. It removes many of the services and software you will not need if you are just using it for your mJ.
