What happened? Working for 8 mo., last week's gone to shi...

Getting the "Please connect to the Internet, and double click here [error 3]" error. Cannot dial out, probably cannot receive calls.

If I throw my box directly behind the cable modem, it resets and seems to stay stable.

If I put it back behind my router (3Com OfficeConnect Wireless 11g Cable/DSL model #3CRWE554G72TU), I'm back to [error 3].

Thing is, I haven't touched this setup in 8 months and working fine, and now I've been out almost all of last week (and for the last 3 days straight). I've NEVER even had ports open in the router in all that time. And, if I reboot the computer...I can place one call and then after that it's back to [error 3].

I'm stumped as to what's going on...seeing something mentioned in other threads about an upgrade last week (I'm midwest - 815)? Just wondering if anyone has any ideas - thanks...

p.s. - Also wondering what ports are required, if this is the case. I've now opened 5060-5070, but it's not helping (and the 3Com doesn't spec protocol on a custom service port setup in this case - I guess it allows any).

An update on this. I was in the middle of a move to a new place, so I didn't have much time to try and work this one out. I brought my SunRocket box-Gizmo Project-GrandCentral solution that I was using at another place and used that for the remainder of the month.

Now, I'm in the new place.

Dumped the 3Com router in favor of a ZyXEL router I had lying around. Hooked up my SunRocket box-Gizmo Project-GrandCentral solution (which gets all of the SIP port forwarding) and started using that again straightaway.

A couple of days ago, I put my WinXP box back on the network, and hooked up the MagicJack. Guess what - it's working fine again, now. And I repeat, SunRocket solution gets the port forwarding (5060-5061,64064), not the MagicJack -- both are working.

Go figure...
