MJ mic too quiet! People can't hear well
Hey all
Everyone says the audio is too quiet on the magicjack phone. Is there any way to turn up the microphone volume? I tried in the menu options on the magicjack app but it didn't seem to help.
Thanks!
Dave

GreenMonkey,
I think I can tell you how to fix your problem but first tell me what your operating system is Vista or XP?

GreenMonkey,
That is your problem.
Go into the control panel open the sound and audio device control icon.
First go into the Audio Tab and make sure that that the default Playback and record are selected to use your audio card the should be nothing selected that says USB phone by Tigerjet.
Then go to the Voice Tab and go thru the same motions. Everything should say your sound card NOT USB phone by Tigerjet.
This happens occasionally when MagicJack installs itself and it should not be. so at the risk of repeating myself change everything back to your sound card adjust the volumes where you like them and you should be good to go.
Please post back and let us know what you find and what the outcome of setting these items correctly turns out to be.
I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Same problem here
Great tips, checked them all out and I am still having the same issue about people not being able to hear me very well.
To be clear ... here is what I have done:
1. Checked playback and record defaults and confirmed that 'Tigerjet' was not being used
2. Adjusted mic levels
3. updated software
4. tried different phones
5. tried different usb ports
Thanks

Your sound in the control panel controls your microphone and earpiece volume, not the soft phone. Turn the soft phone all the way down and adjust your volume in the control panel. That'll solve your problem.
Windows Vista and Laptop with XP SP2 on the road. Occasionally, a Mac if my Windows machine isn't working.
So if you're using magicjack with a regular phone. the mic and volume should be turned all the way down on the soft phone? People can hear me fine on a headset or corded phone. I can't get them to hear me worth crap on a cordless phone though. I actually tried three different cordless phones, I had to go back to corded. Its funny, with corded phone, its crystal clear. I cant tell a difference at all from land line.
mark40511,
Are you using a wireless router, actually you don't have to be using the wireless portion but if you router has wireless, what frequency wireless phones have you tried?
If they are 2.4. Ghz units they could be bucking your wireless or vise versa. The same think could happen is you have wireless "A" and 5.8 Ghz phones.
Try turning off the wireless radio in the router and see if your phone problem goes away.
Also are you using any bluetooth systems in or around the wireless phones?
PS - You said "I actually tried three different cordless phones" you do mean three different "Cordless Phone Base Units" correct?

actually, Yeah. I do have a wireless router. I have no clue how to check what your asking because my roommate set it up. But these were different phones and base units, three different brands. One was a philips, one was vtech and the other GE. I'm going to investigate the router. I think one was 2 That hadn't occurred to me at all.
No cordless phones are still too low. I mean, I can have a conversation on a cordless, but they are always asking me to speak up or talk into the phone. I don't have any bluetooth devices and my router settings have been checked. I don't know what else to try. I works pretty good with a corded headset or corded phone. So I dunno.
BlueBear,BlueBear wrote:Thanks mark40511. yeah, corded phone works fine on mine too, just my cordless phone is always quiet..
Thanks for your comment.
This low volume problem with a cordless phone is a relatively new problem.
Have you checked all the audio configurations in your OS and MagicJack. It sounds like you are about resigned to "that is just the way it is" and I don't believe that is true. Everyone that I talk to that uses MJ uses Cordless phones and most of the time I find myself turning down the volume on my cordless phone to make the incoming signal a little below the pain threshold.
Before I go off explaining what to try please tell me what OS you are using unless it is a MAC and in that case I can't help. I have no knowledge of MACs whatsoever.
But if am willing to go to whatever lengths required to get your cordless phone going that includes telephone support if you want to. I know Cordless Phones work with MJ and work well. Their just has to be some goofy little setting that is being overlooked.
I also didn't pay attention to where you are located and I know it is a work night but I am retired so whatever you would like to do I am up for it. We could even go beyond the telephone and use remote assistance if you want and it is needed.
I will PM you my MJ number if you would like and we could start there.
Cordless phones are just way too neat to give up on them. Wired phones are "So twentieth century".
PS - My offer is open for anyone that thinks I may be able to help (I know a long-shot but what the hell).

what kind of cordless phone (ie 2.4ghz, DECT, 900 mhz)
If you have an old 900mhz, try that as they get least interference from most home wireless routers. Of course you can't wander as far. I have the Panasonic DECT and can wander about 1/2 block before it starts having problems. Great for walking my dog and jabbering on the phone at the same time.

Morpheus: What is "coming soon"? How do you define "coming soon"?
I bought a set for my mother because she is too old to go running for the phone. So I pick up a set that had 3 remotes and one in the main cradle but I remember looking at the claims on the box I don't remember what the standby time was but I think I remember it claiming 17 to 18 hours of talk time. I have had them for a couple of months and so far have no reason to doubt their claim.
Considering my mother loses them all over the house and some never see a charger for weeks at a time.
