Saw the New Informercial This AM
I saw the magicJack Plus-featured informercial on ION TV this morning. Much the same as before except they show it both on a computer and with AC adapter and Cat 5 cable. That configuration has the mJ+ right at the AC outlet.
Has a banner saying you can port your home phone number to mJ. Kept some of the old bits showing people calling friends with mJ.
It gives $69.95 for the device with first year "free," then subsequent years are $19.95. So I guess they will hold that annual fee for awhile, at least. Same 30-day trial as before.
He boasted that "magicJack invented the Internet phone!" True perhaps now that they merged with VocalTech.

Re: Saw the New Informercial This AM
I believe the "$19.95 per year" is only if you purchase the 5 year plan, 1 year of service is $29.95 purchased individually.kleeb wrote: It gives $69.95 for the device with first year "free," then subsequent years are $19.95. I believe you, but that's not how they presented it. A little sleazy.Kif Kroker wrote:

I forgot to mention above that they have a testimonial from "the former President of Vonage."
First spotted the commercial on Dish network Sat Sep 17, 2011 6:30 am .
I should have recorded it and uploaded the video to You Tube.
It's done with the same salesman and style as the previous infomercial.
and yes the renewal fee is handled in a misleading way.

Mel Author is the announcer and he either bought the rights to promote MJ or he cut a deal with MJ as he owns the company that does the promotions ...
Mel is an old time info dude ...

You like it, FINE. BUT this is a MJ forum not "hey my Net talk is better than your MJ so buy it instead forum"

This thread was littered with NetTalk references and asking for comparisons. And the forum doesn't give these knuckleheads anyplace else to post their feelings on the competition.
Oh wait, not it wasn't and yes they do. My bad.
They must have an incentive plan over at NetTalk where they get a nickle off of their next annual renewal for each time they mention NetTalk in this forum.
I seriously don't care about the Net talk product and the comments should go in the : Alternatives to magicJack section.
VocalTec / TigerJet / MagicJack were first in VoIP and the first to save me real money over the big Telco's.
Although Net talk came up with a good product I know who is riding on the coat tails of MagicJack and Skypes sucess.
If you think Net talk or another VoIP provider is better than go with them, you won't hurt my feelings one bit and your phone calls won't be clogging my chosen network phone service.

From Wikipedia:
VocalTec Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: CALL), is an Israeli telecom equipment provider. The company was founded in 1989 by Alon Cohen and Lior Haramaty, who invented and patented the first Voice over IP audio transceiver.[1] VocalTec continues to be a leading VoIP company.

Obvious to who? It wasn't even obvious to you from this post where you said that using NetTalk with GoogleVoice is problematic. It's not problematic with MagicJack.luv2uallday wrote: it is true netTALK is better than the magic jack =0) tha'ts obvious as well. =0)

(Recap) Google voice has been problematic for the DUO and that's where they could improve on for sure.
What IS obvious is that you, and a few others, seem to think that this is a forum for MagicJack competition opinions. Or you choose to ignore, or can't read well enough to find, the section set aside for those opinions.
And since I assume you have not purchased a Plus, your opinion on how it compares in quality to any other product is totally worthless.

This article dates internet calls back to the ARPANET, which was a project funded by the defense department.Pablo123 wrote:The us goverment invented voip, i dont know how they can take credit for that, plus mj merged with vocaltec a year ago

But the government didn't invent VOIP anymore than they invented the Internet. The government doesn't invent anything. They provided money to private companies and universities to do so. Unless you believe Al Gore.

I have had a MJ for 2 yrs so I know all about the ponzie scheme that they operate. I said the NT Duo is better NOT perfect. Even with it's flaws it's a far superior product compared to the MJ+nailgunner wrote:Obvious to who? And again until you actually TRY a Plus which is a different device, and with a different processor, than the regular MJ, your opinion on how the Plus compares to NetTalk is totally worthless, in my opinion.luv2uallday wrote: I said the NT Duo is better NOT perfect.
