I have a desktop and laptop. The Laptop is running Vista Business. MagicJack installed perfectly! The desktop is running XP SP2. MagicJack will NOT install. I get an error message "Windows could not load the installer for MEDIA" followed by "installation could not be completed, your device might not work.....).
When I plug MJ into the USB port (I've tried 3 different ports and a powered hub) and pick up the receiver to my phone, the LED on the phone lights up (indicating it's being powered by the MJ/computer). I do NOT hear any dialtone, but if I dial a number it goes through. I can't hear anything through the earpeace and I don't know if they hear me.
One more thing, when I go into the menu options of the MagicJack, it shows that I am on headset (which I don't own) and will not allow me to switch into "telephone"mode. This may be why I can't hear anything but doesn't explain no dialtone.
Any ideas??????

try this
when you plug in your USB MJ, to another usb, does it start up ?
If yes, Have you disable your firewall temporally ?
also make sure you dont have any extra usb device during the installation ...

tried it all
I tried by temporarily disabling Mcaffee. The results were the same. Does the error message "Windows could not load the installer for MEDIA" have any significance in trying to get MagicJack to install properly?
Why can't I switch to "telephone" mode from MJ's menu?

could be alot of reason why you will get that error
but to troubleshoot the fix for your MJ installation try this
download http://upgrades.magicjack.com/upgrade/upgrade.exe , and saved it to your desktop
after that
go to start then run and type in
msconfig
when the config windows open, click on the startup tab,
once in the startup tab, look towards the bottom and choose disable all.
restart your PC.
once it finish booting back, run the upgrade.exe you downloaded ,
once installation finish, and hopefully your magicjack is working
go to start then run and type in
msconfig
and at the general tab click on
Normal Startup,
click apply and restart the computer
, hope this helps
