What happened to my DVD drive and speakers?

Post by MJinKY »

I came here because of the wonderful support from MJ. MJ is working great. No problems there. However, now I can't use my speakers. Example: Go to ESPN online and the video can't be heard. Went to device manager and under DVD/CD-ROM drives, it only has YMAX magicjack USB device. I want my DVD back and to use my speakers. But, I don't want to screw up MJ because it is working perfectly. Any help?

Here is what I have done so far.....

Ran magicfix. More like magicflop. Nothing! Then went to the (semi) live support. They sent me another program to run. Nothing. Switch USB drives. Nothing. Reboot. Nothing. And then, got the final bailout question: Are you running an anti-virus program? Of course I am!!! Well, you have to disable it. WHAT?!! Are you serious?!!! She said that mj does not run with the anti-virus. I told her, yes, it does run. I just can't use my DVD drive nor my speakers. She now continues to robotically tell me that is the problem. Anybody else done this?

When I first installed mine on XP, the same thing happened. Went to the Ask Dan help area on the MJ site ant there was an easy fix. sorry, that was 3 months ago and i don remember but it is exactly what you describe and it wasn't hard to do the change.

I had the probably when I first got MJ back in Jan.
Just had to unplug MJ, reboot, reinstall the hardware, reboot again and then plug in the mj.
Never had the problem again

Did you try going into your control panel into the sounds and audio devices and see what your default playback device is? Click the drop down arrow and change it to your audio card. See if that fixes the audio.

Are you sure your DVD drive is gone?

control panel>administrative tools>computer management>disk management is it listed here? (vista may be set up differently, I dont run vista)

Well, I got my sound to work without any problem. But, yes, my DVD is gone completely. I think the only thing to do is restore my default machine settings and reinstall MJ. That scares me since I got MJ working so smoothly.
