MagicJack Plus - No luck establishing a static IP address

I know this has probably been asked before, but I can't get anywhere with this. I am trying to use the My Subscriptions area of the my.Magicjack.com website to assign a static IP address to my MagicJack plus device. Is this even possible? As far as I know, this is the only means to change this setting...is it?

I have manually entered the IP address I needed and saved changes. Now what? I have restarted the MagicJack plus device several times. Connected via USB and restarted. Updated firmware and restarted, etc, etc,...

The MagicJack chat staff appear to be completely clueless about even basic networking and I spent an extremely frustrating hour and a half with reps asking to remote into my PC, or asking what model my cable modem is...

Has anyone been successful in establishing a static IP address on the device? I really need a static IP address to connect to the DMZ port of my firewall. (DHCP addresses are not being offered on this port).

My device is still configured to use DHCP...

Try using the router's feature of ip reservations based on the unit's MAC address if your router support this. That way DHCP will hand out the same ip to the MJ+ MAC each time it connects and you can then place that ip in the DMZ.

Unfortunately, I don't have that option. With my current configuration, my only option is to disable DHCP on the MagicJack and statically assign its address. By assign, I mean at the MagicJack device level, not via my equipment.

Maybe I am mis-interpreting the Static IP configuration page on the MagicJack website. The way it reads, it appears you can specify the static IP address of the device.

If that's not what its for, than what is it? Or, maybe it just plain doesn't work?

More detail on my issue:

I'm using Smoothwall Express, a software based firewall, and not a traditional hardware router.

By default, the Orange (DMZ) port defined on Smoothwall does not support DHCP (by design).

However, I found a mod that adds DHCP capability to the DMZ port.

Although this compromises security to a certain degree, I have found that this workaround works for me.
