I'm quickly falling off the bad side of a love/hate relationship with this thing. I've run magicfix. I've run upgrade.exe. I've been chatting online with the most ineffectual tech support on earth for literally an hour and a half. They just recommended I run upgrade.exe. Again. For the fourth time.
Here's the symptoms:
I plug in either of the two jacks that I have, OR I click on the desktop shortcut.
I get the 'A minute of patience...' window.
It turns into the 'Tell your friends' window.
The little loading screen with the load bar of tiny vertical lines appears and disappears.
The softphone opens up and says 'Starting, please wait.'
Then a system window opens in front of the softphone that says 'magicJack USB Softphone has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.'
Now, with one jack I can then click the desktop icon and some of the time it will allow me to make a call. With the other one, it never ever opens right, no matter what.
I have:
Installed the upgrades, and then installed the upgrade for Windows Vista because tech support told me to, even though I have XP Pro.
Rebooted my computer.
Rebooted my router.
Taken the jack out of the current port, waited 15 seconds and plugged it into another port. (over and over and over and over)
'eject'ed the jack in 'My Computer'
Checked for lots of music software which I continue not to have.
Checked for Vonage and Skype, which I also don't have.
I'm about 10 minutes away from butane time, so if anybody has a suggestion that I haven't heard a dozen times from tech support, I'd love to hear it.
magicJack has encountered a problem and needs to close

Maybe A problem, but not THE problem.
I got the second one for my sister because her birthday is on the 21st. I only took it out of the box to try and isolate the problem with the stupid jack. The one that isn't working now, wasn't working then. And yes, I did all of the upgrading and rebooting and whatever before I introduced the sporadically working jack #2.
I've had exact same problem with the only MJ but fixed it
My MJ Softphone kept crashing after Vista SP1 Installation.
But the problem did not start until I've switched from one User Profile in Vista to another.
On the second User profile Softphone would load to almost 90% then crash erroring out and quitting.
Shortly after the same problem would start happening to the first user account profile.
I've fixed it by doing the following:
1. Disabled the WindowsDefender which is a built-in anti-spyware from Microsoft.
2. Formated the magicJack drive (not the one which is a CD but the one which is a disk).
3. Deleted the installation directory of C:\Users\Adminuser\AppData\Roaming\mjusbsp (and the similar one for thhe other user profile)
4. Ran the Upgrade.exe (the one for Vista).
5. Restarted PC
Everything is still working since then, which is 3 weeks after.
I've only lost the address book. But I did it intentionally since had reasons to believe that something could have gotten corrupted in the address book file and it was possibly causing the crashing.
Still don't know what was the main reason for the fix.
But it was a fix for me

look at your system event log, and see if there is any other error that could be occurring that might be causing magicjack to crashElemeye wrote:My MJ Softphone kept crashing after Vista SP1 Installation.
