dial *67 from MagicJack - WiMax Test ???

Post by juniorbodine »

Dialed *67 from my MagicJack, to see if it could do per-call blocking.

Connected, and heard a recording:
"You have reached the WiMax Communications Test Number. This call was successful."
Then sounds like its auto-dialing another number, but never connects to anything.

Number showing in the MJ call log was sip:magicjack.com.

Is this similar to the SIP test number (411, 611 or something like that?)

Caught me by surprise. I half-expected a phone company guy to come on asking me what I was doing hacking into their system.

Well, if you dial #67 before the number you wanna call, the call still goes through, and at least on mine, doesn't block caller ID, either. :-( But, I'm having weird CallerID issues lately.

I've had this happen quite a few times. Usually it's when I mis-dial, but it has also happened a few times when I call a number within my area code that is normally a toll call, but forget to include the area code. That's sometimes, not always. Often as not, omitting the area code works fine. I guess the system usually knows where the prefix is for within the entire area code. Perhaps some proxies support this while others don't. That of course is pure speculation on my part. I'll pay more attention in the future and try to nail down a pattern, if any.

I've used a *something something and it blocked my callerid on that call though I can't remember is it was *67 or *87 or something else.

CBunting has it correct.

YMax Communications is the company who owns/operates MagicJack, and is also a CLEC (Competative Local Exchange Carrier). Most VOIP companies use other people's services for providing a connection to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN), but YMax does it themselves.
