Was trying to figure out if I can somehow unlocked the files stored on the MJ itself. Perhaps we can start modding how things starts up or even change the skins and ads etc...
I've tried to use software to unlock it but it doesn't work.
can you unlock the files on the MJ?

Some of the files are encrypted. The magicjack exe itself has resources that are also encrypted.dannieboiz wrote:Was trying to figure out if I can somehow unlocked the files stored on the MJ itself. Perhaps we can start modding how things starts up or even change the skins and ads etc...

Changing skins is easy, and does not require anything special... Just change the skn file to whatever you want, and start your MJ manually (using the magicjack.exe). See this post for details.
As far as changing ads - this too is possible if you create a custom provisioning server. You'll need to know how the sip info is encrypted. Decrypt your sip info, change the:
Code: Select all
CustomerBannerURL="http://67.90.156.68/msgs/rotate2.html"
A lot of work, but it is possible. (Of course, as long as you are violating the Terms of Service, why not just use an ATA?)
Trying to kill skins. New version MJ??
I tried the suggestion to unlock a better phone by creating shortcut to "magicJack.exe /foreground /scf _magicJackPersonalDataRoot "G:\magicJack" , so I could kill the skins, but when I click on the magic jack.exe or new shortcut, it never opens. only cdloader and magicjack loader will open it. my skins keep rebuilding themselves and I'm at a lost how to fix?? Is the target above correct? or do I need to change something above to my data?
only other thing I wonder is?? why i have magic jack taking 2 drive letters? one is F:(I can see files in this drive if I explore) and other G:(CD Drive)
TIA

It's normal for MJ to take two drives -- the pseudo-CD is so that autorun will start it when you insert the device. For most folks, the CD is F: and the writable is G: . I don't know why they are opposite in your case, but since they are, you should have ... /scf _magicJackPersonalDataRoot "F:\magicJack" .
