I am running 2 magicjacks on the same network - they will work for a little while and then I get "Please connect to the internet, and double click here [error 3]". I am using a Netgear WGR614V4 router. From what I can determine after painfully checking the router configuration is that the magicjack is "automatically" envoking port triggering - I have no "rules" for the magicjack but when I click on the "status" button in port triggering I see 2 table entries in which - the "Rule" is blank, then I see both IP addresses which have the magicjacks on them, Open ports 5060..5070, and Time remaining with a number (usually 1-4). I can't figure out how the magic jack created its own rule in the port triggering table (UPnP service is turned off). According to my router documentation:
"* Only 1 PC can use a "Port Triggering" application at any time.
* After a PC has finished using a "Port Triggering" application, there is a "Time-out" period before the application can be used by another PC. This is required because this Router cannot be sure when the application has terminated."
So these entries are apparently causing a conflict and causing both MJs to stop working. I also do not have any port forwarding rules enabled - so there is no conflict there. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to address this issue besides purchasing a new router?

Re: 2 Magic Jacks on One Home Network
Question is do you need a port triggering rule? The port triggering your experiencing may be caused by the use of UPNP, even though you say it is off. Check your setting in Windows as well, perhaps it is overriding the routers setting. Netgear routers of late are notorious for buggy firmware.yams wrote:I am running 2 magicjacks on the same network - they will work for a little while and then I get "Please connect to the internet, and double click here [error 3]". To use port triggering, don't define a range, rather define individual rules for each triggered port. That way, each device will use its own trigger rule if you change via registry the default SIP port used by one of the MJ's. For example, one MJ uses the port 5060 rule, the other uses the 5061 rule, etc.
Another possibily is to use the windows firewall to re-map the port used on one or both machines thereby eliminating the necessity to alter registry settings that may get overwritten by the MJ software anyway.
There are 10 different kinds of people in the world. There are those who understand binary, and those who don't.

Problem Solved
Well, the problem is solved for now!
I replaced the Netgear WGR614V4 router with an old (non-wireless) Netgear RP114 I had stored, that solved the issue (considering it does not have port triggering - only port forwarding). I will connect the WGR614V4 to the RP114 configured as a wireless access point only.
The problem I was having was really strange though, I would call the non-working MJ from the working one, the box popped up on the screen with the NON WORKING MJ number! somehow it looked as if I was calling from the non functioning MJ. Talk about call-id spoofing!

Root,
Well there is at least two of us old enough to even know what you are talking about "MagicJack on TRS80 Model 1 16K Extended Basic" Oh - I forgot to mention In your dreams.

OK - you guys are starting to make this forum sound like an "Old folks home" with a bunch of ex-Geeks sitting out in the sun in their wheelchairs reminiscing about the good old days.
