What is Best Cordless Phone to use with router?

Post by dkmontgomery »

Hi! I have my magic jack Plus up and running through one phone. I attempted to use a cordless phone base which extends to two other phones in our house. The base phone will work, but the other two phones do not connect. I was curious if anybody has utilized a cordless phone set up with success and if so - does anyone have a recommendation on the best cordless phone deal to use? :?: :?:

Do you have more than one handset in your house that works of either of the two mentioned cordless phones?

I have two MJ+ and they both have differnt model Panasonic Dect 6 multi-handset working on them. One is a 4 hand set and the other is 3 handset.

Buy yourself a more curent handset with Dect 6.0 and you should be fine.

I have a low priced unpowered GE wall phone that has battery powered caller ID display, This phone performs well with MJ and MJ+.

With a backup power source (UPS) on my MJ+, Cable modem and router this phone has proven itself to work reliably long after the power goes out.

Add up the Ringer Equivalency Numbers (RENs) for all your phones. You can find the REN on the base of any phone in the US. It will not be on satellite cordless extensions. They're considered part of the base phone. There are two types of REN: A and B. If it has no B after it, the REN is A, and is an older phone. If the REN has a B at the end, it's a B phone. Most modern phones are type B.

For instance, I have:

1 GE Big Button CID Speakerphone corded handset with a REN of 1.0B
1 Panasonic DECT 6.0 Base with three satellite handsets with a REN of 0.1B
1 Colombo Phone cordless with a REN of 0.0B

The total REN for all phones is 1.1, well below the total REN of 2.9 that is the limit of my magicjack plus.

Older phones have RENs of 1.0 or more. These phones used the line current to ring the bell. Newer phones have to be plugged in, and so, use the phone's power cord to ring the bell. If you are using several older phones, like the old AT&T trimlines, at an REN of 1.1 each, you may have trouble using more than two phones.

You have received some very good advice already. I have used a 5 handset Panasonic (KX-TGA641) with no problems at all.

We have a GE DECT 6.0/Skype cordless phone. They can hear us, but we cannot hear them.We have the volume cranked up to maximum on both handsets. Recently replaced the batteries which made no difference. The MJ Go has been both plugged into the desktop USB and also in a wall socket with adapter on occasion. Our old corded phone sounds fine. How dumb is that? Any suggestions?
