Busy signal, can't call in or out, hard reset required
Hi, I have the Magic Jack Plus plugged directly into a netgear 108 mpbs wireless router, which is plugged into a motorola surf board cable modem. The magic jack plus is plugged into the netgear wireless, and a vtech 5.8 ghz spread spectrum 3 handset cordless phone is plugged into the magic jack plus. Speed: Comcast: Ping 25 ms, upload 10.15Mbps, download 6.25 Mbps For exactly one week, this system operated like a dream. Now, callers get a busy signal for all calls. I can make one call out, and then I hang up, and when I pick up the phone again, I get a busy signal. I have to manually shut down my wireless and magic jack plus device to get it to reset to get a dial tone, and then I can make one outgoing call before I have to shut it down again. Regardless of my hard reboot, callers still get a busy signal, even when I get a dial tone. Any ideas? Is there a way to force the magic jack to 'hang up' and 'reset'? I have only one port on my surfboard to plug in the wireless. I thought about directly plugging the magic jack into that but then I have no wireless in the house. Any advise/help you can offer would be much appreciated. I've scanned the forum and haven't found exactly this problem yet - many variations but not this one.

Same problem here
when I connect the magic jack + to the computer I have no problems making or receiving calls. When I plug the magic jack to the netgear router, I get dialtone ok, but cannot receive a call. Caller gets that the magic jack customer you have called is unavailable to take your call. PLease leave a message after the tone".
Also, I can make one outbound call from my phone and it connects and works fine; however, after hanging up from that call, whenever I pick up my handset, instead of a dialtone I get a busy signal. Needless to say, I'm not able to make any more outbound calls. Tried AT&T cordless phones, the base unit and another independent hardwired phone. I powercycled the netgear router, same result.

possible remedy
I have been experiencing the same thing. I was trying to "power" all of my home jacks by plugging my MJP into the wall phone jack and back feeding service to all of the other jacks in the house. This worked for my old MJ. One difference between then and now was that I had the phone line connected to the street. I never had the line physically connected before as it was new construction. So I tested it without going into the wall jack and it works. I will now go outside to the incoming line (gray box on side of house) and physically disconnect the line to the copper line provider. Will post back..
MJ busy signal
what MJ fails to disclose.. and why would they.. is that they are over their capacity in many areas. If you cturn off the voice mail.. then call your MJ number, in many cases it immediately gets a busy signal... Nothing to do with your setup... all to di with MJ's capacity.. or lack of... I have MJ plus, and have been on with chat support (sic) daily... and it still only answers sporadically... MJ should be your LAST attempt at VOIP ....

Re: MJ busy signal
- If this were actually the case, it wouldn't make a difference whether you turned MJ voicemail on or off, you'd hear a fast-busy signal regardless of that VM setting. Also, getting such a fast-busy signal is not necessarily due to *MJ* (YMAX, actually) being over-capacity (there are other issues and companies involved as well, and not necessarily just MJ/YMAX and the phone company originating the call... )budster wrote:what MJ fails to disclose.. and why would they.. is that they are over their capacity in many areas. Simple fix
I was getting a constant busy signal on our MagicJack land line after switching Internet providers. I did the following to get back to a steady dial tone:
1) unplugged the MJ from the charger
2) switched the polarity of the USB charger (!)
3) plugged the MJ back into the charger
4) gave it a minute to reboot
and it worked. (Which makes no sense at all.)
