Whistlephone alternative

I had whistlephone for close to a year. It served me very well since I only used it for faxing, and making a few calls, but mostly for faxing.

My workhorse hp officejet printheads went bad, and I decided to upgrade to a monochrome laser aio.

This one however is a lexmark. For some reason the lemark is incompatible with whistle.

It assumes the vioce prompt ad is actually the other end answering. The hp, used to just "listen" until the remote end answers. I've called lexmark, gave them all of the information and they said they will return my call when they found something. I've been trying to find an alternate voip for the last two weeks with a low price or free plan to no avail. Does anyone have a service similar to whistle, or a service that gives you free minutes to a certain amount. I use this line for simply making short calls, and faxing.

The equipment I have is a linksys pap2, and a computer with windows xp on there. Any help would be appreciated.
