MJ+ in 3g/hspa mode without a computer?

Post by csawatsky »

Hi,

I've got an MJ+ and a low bandwidth connection, is it possible to force the device into 3g mode when it is plugged into the power adapter instead of a computer?

thanks!

HUH??? How the heck can a MJ be a 3g device since it is not a cell?
Why not looking to the the MJ app which allows you to use your cell using MJ minutes... Plus all the adapter does is supply the MJ with power when it is plugged into your router as opposed to getting its power via the USB jack of your PC..
Apples and oranges kiddo...

sorry, perhaps I'm not expressing myself properly.

on the magicjack program on my computer, there is an option to choose "aircard" mode as opposed to "normal" mode
as per the green circle at the top left of this screenshot

I am trying to use the magicjack on a satellite uplink, which is not terribly quick.
I would like to use the magicjack plus without a computer.

My question IS, how can I put the magicjack into "aircard" mode without having the computer interface available?

I do like the sound of the app, though. I'll look into that.

All the air card setting does is lower the bandwith requirments a tad since it is assuming one is using the MJ on a wireless router ( I.E. on their laptop in another room, etc...). Some people have reported the setting sticking ( though I don't know how) after they plug it back into the router.
You should have done a search here about satellite first as myself and others have said MJ sucks with it as the latency is to great on the upload side and will drive you crazy.

I wouldn't waste my time trying to use voip over satellite. Better option but not by much would be to try to use a data connection from your cell if you have one. This would require you to use a computer though.

Although I agree that the latency using a satellite ISP will be too extreme, I disagree with what you say about the purpose of Aircard mode. Though it *could* help somewhat for a wireless router, if there is bad delay, it is intended for use on a PC accessing the Internet via an "aircard", using a cellular wireless network.

Agree but it does help some people get a better connection. MANY have reported here it helping with both their wired as well as wireless connections.

Air card mode is only used when you are using an air card connection, i think the updated dial pad does not have it anymore (i think), the only way to use the magicjack plus without a computer is by connecting it physically through the ethernet port that came with it to a router or a modem.

Edit: corrected some typos

MJP Wireless mobile Set up

Post by eye2020 »

How is this setting?

I use MJ-P with this setup at my temporary office and my RV.

1. mobile AP (Verizon MiFi 4G LTE)
2. Very Small wireless router (WLAN router AP setting) with ethernet port (Like extender for game console)
3. MagicJack Plus

I am enjoying very good quality of phone conversation.

All 3 devices are 5 volt 1 amp: Can be used on12V DC or 100V AC with appropriate adapters
Can be set up in a vehicle (like RV) easily.
