Keeping old phone number

Post by PattiJo160 »

I was wondering, when I get my magic jack plus, I want to keep my existing phone number and cancel my land line. How does this work? When I call my phone company to cancel my service, how does my old phone number get transferred to magic jack?

I guess you didnt search first as this has been answered many times.
Log into your MJ account ( www.my.magicjack.com) from there push on the Phone Numbers Tab, then Port a Number, then Transfer Number.
Obviously you cant cancel your landline until MJ completes your transfer. You just check the same spot for a week or so until it says transfer complete.

Hope that helps

Also Patti, you won't get any incoming calls during this transition for about 10 days. I am going through this right now & MJ explained to me there is no way around this. If you want to keep your existing #, you have to "wait out" those 10 days before you can receive incoming calls. So be prepared for that also. :-)

And it best not to cancel your number or account with your existing provider. The new company you are going with will need all your info (account#, name on account, complete address). Then the new company will process your request.

If you cancel you account then there is nothing to port or transfer!
