Magic Jack not installed still receiving calls

Post by sfg511 »

I discontinued my Magic Jack service about 6 months ago. There is no device connected to my computer. There are no files called "Magic Jack" residing on my computer.

Yet I still receive calls that were placed by people using my new phone number and appear as Magic Jack emails with a voice file attached.

How can I avoid this happening?

Thank you for your suggestions.

You don't need a MagicJack device, or MJ files, on your computer to receive the email voice-mails. Any voice-mails are automatically sent out to the email associated with the device.

That said, it makes no sense that you have a new phone number, with I'm assuming a different phone company, and are receiving MJ voice emails regarding calls to that number. I could see this happening if you sold or gave away your MJ device, and the email associated with the device was never changed, even if the phone number for the MJ device was changed.

That's precisely what's happening. I switched to Vonage with a new phone number. People call that new number, and the call bypasses my answering device and ends up as an email with a voice file. Sounds like Voodoo, buts that's what has been occurring.

Is your account still active at http://my.magicjack.com ? If so, change your greeting/message to have people call you on your new number.

That is what I have done, with an original magicJack # which expires in June.

Keith, who wants callers be ready...

He says they are already calling him on his new number. The calls to the new number are being hijacked somehow.

My account is no longer active. I checked my account page on the Magic Jack site and there's no record of my account.
