Question about the new magic jack (one not needing a PC)
I personally would love having the new magic jack device that doesn't need a computer, but it's $70. I already bought the $40 previously.
Since I had AT&T before, I have an entire phone system. I tried connecting the phone jack to the entire house but of course that didn't work. Would it be possible to do this with the new one (considering it's connecting to a wall jack instead of USB)?
Is this new one any good? More problematic than the old one?
Thanks.

I, and a lot of others, have had great success with having the old regular MJ plugged into an outlet to have phones throughout the house ring.xxsniper1522xx wrote:I personally would love having the new magic jack device that doesn't need a computer, but it's $70. I would do some searching in this forum to make sure you have it set up correctly. But if your setup, for whatever purpose, won't allow the regular MJ to be tied into your house system, I highly doubt the new Plus would work either.

Of course? Um, why not? Did you unplug the AT&T line coming into your main box?xxsniper1522xx wrote:I tried connecting the phone jack to the entire house but of course that didn't work. .
Do that first, then plug a line from the Magic Jack into any phone outlet and the whole house should be ready to go.

Everything you need to know has already been mentioned to you here.
Not sure what else you need to know.
If you had done a search, which was suggested, you might have seen this:

No, I don't like a tutorial. But, I'll give it a shot. It's simple.xxsniper1522xx wrote:Any ideas on how I would go about getting this work? Like a tutorial?
1. Do you know where the telco box is on a side of your house?
If not, go find it and come back.
2. Open the box, you'll probably need a flat blade screwdriver.
3. Note where the telco line comes in, probably a regular (RJ11) phone connector, Possibly held down with a wire clip.
4. Unplug it.
5. Go in the house and plug the phone cable from the end of the Magicjack into an outlet.
6. You should have phone service throughout the house. If not, you may have too many (older) phones, as Joe said. Start unplugging them until you get a dial tone on one that's still plugged in.
7. No good? Punt.

with DSL?
Does this work with a house wired for DSL too?dogcacher wrote:No, I don't like a tutorial. But, I'll give it a shot. It's simple.xxsniper1522xx wrote:Any ideas on how I would go about getting this work? Like a tutorial?

I have DSL service and also have MJ wired to my phone jacks. When I bought my house, the existing phone wires were bad and noisy so I rewired them. In my case each jack comes down to the basement and all tie onto a terminal block. So it was easy to do, the one jack that still needs outside service for the DSL I left alone, the remaining jacks I removed from the terminal block and wired them together by color. So all the remaining jacks are isolated from the outside and I have no problems with MJ servicing all the jacks.
House phone wiring could have been wired different ways, say jack to jack and so forth. Maybe an idea is to pick the jack that you have your DSL service on and run a new wire from that jack (disconnecting the existing wire to that jack) back to the box outside your house, remove the existing connection and connect the new wire on to provide your DSL to just that one jack. The remaining jacks in the house will be now isolated from the outside and still connected together.
