Magic Jack plus - Volume too low / quiet

Post by Cant_Hear_Chit »

The volume of incoming calls on MagicJack plus is very low. I have to really concentrate to hear people. I have completely normal hearing.. my ears were just tested in fact.

If I plug the unit into a computer and manually adjust the volume slider higher in the softpad I can hear just fine at the half volume setting on the slider.. I can adjust it so high it bothers me.

When I put the unit back in stand-a-lone just plugged into an outlet the volume goes back to a whisper..........

Why can't I adjust the volume? My phone works just fine on Broadvoice, Vonage and on a land-line. There needs to be a way to make the volume higher.. and if there is already please point in the direction to do so.

None of that applies to my situation.

I am having the same problem, very quiet. I am not connected to a PC, directly through router.

It does not even recognize when you dial the phone. Only way to use it, is to connect it to PC and dial from there. And then you can still barely hear it through the phone.

It starts out quiet, gets a little louder but once you say something the volume drops again.

:) Please Try to Forward the ports in your router and then put the Mac Address and IP of mJ in Reserve IP Address feature.

You may try and check out my thread in this sections about port forwarding and or the Mac Address listed in there.

I'm not sure if he did. But I did and you make NO mention of your OS in that post.

Vista? XP? Windows7? Mac? Nope, just double checked, don't see any of them, or any other OS listed.

8) Uhh ,, I think he means that when he plugged the mJ on the wall and the router he could NOT adjust the volume (as compared to plugging it in to the computer in his post) and it's dead air or whispher and his username implies "CANT-HEAR-CHIT!!" haha

So can't-hear-chit is his OS?
 That's his name

anyway - his main prob is when mj connected to the wall and it goes to whispher and quiet ..

OS not needed anyhow since it's connected to the router :)
prolly - Linksys, Negear, Cisco, TPLink, Uverse etc ..
That's what I thought

I have no clue why black_icon was asking what OS he was using. But did you not read my post as an answer to what OS he is using, does not answer what OS he is using since it isn't mentioned in the post. Maybe black_icon is charting the OS of MJ users. 8)

I have extremely limited experience with routers since I haven't used one for years. But per Microsoft, there can be compatability issues with various Microsoft OS's and routers.

Per this link:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/Wind ... e-internet

"Because of the new networking features in Windows Vista and Windows 7, some older network routers are not fully compatible with these versions of Windows and can cause problems."

The MS answer was in regards to not being able to connect to the internet, but logic might say if that is an issue, so might also the actual functioning of routers be an issue with various OS's. So maybe what OS he is using is a valid question. It does appear that the router being used would be a helpful bit of info as well.

Does anyone have a solution to this problem? I am experiencing the same thing. When I connect it to a computer, I can adjust the volume. When I disconnect and plug it into the wall and eithernet, it returns to quiet. It doesn't seem to save the the settings that I set while it's plugged in to the computer.

When the MMJ+ is used as a stand-alone device, its volume as supplied to a connected telephone IS relatively quiet. The only known "work-around" is to use a telephone that has a very good volume control/amplifier built into it.

Low volume fixed now using apple app

Post by Critterscamaro »

I too suffered for the last year with low volume on my end only untill the smart phone apps came out, I think the brand and type of your land line does indeed make a differance magic jack should endorse types that work best as the digital to analog converters (dac) are not the same quality in different phone models. I have the Magic jack plus on home phone extension should probably pick up a VOIP phone model and see if it helps -- also radio shack carries inline volume boosters to help about 20 dollars
