Magic Jack: Voicemail
I recently received Magic Jack and thought to myself this is not a bad product for the price. However, I can not figure out how to leave a voicemail. I tried calling my number, hitting *, then 1-2-3-4. I continue to get the female generic voice saying something like "The person at...."
I tried hitting * before and after the message--still nothing.
Any suggestions?
Any help would be appreciated.
Dylan
p.s. I used the instant customer service chat box. Unfortunately, they were no help.

Update:
I took care of the problem without the help of the Magic Jack Chatbox Reps. I did chat with three or four customer serv. reps. However, based on their suggestions, we couldn't come up with a solution. Then it donned on me...and I shared this with the rep so they can keep this simple thing in mind if someone else should experience the same minor problem...
USE THE PHONE CONNECTED TO THE MAGIC JACK.
Not your cell, not Uncle Harry's, but use the line connected to the Magic Jack and into the computer.

Thank you, Darkman. Thanks for your reply. Anything is always helpful. I was just surprised not one person from Magic Jack figured this out. I even went as far as telling the Chat Box Girl, I'm going to post this on a site online to see if they can suggest anything.
But I do appreciate your response, Darkman. As for the Soft Keys, so this stuff does work, huh? I'll have to try this out as I am still on a trial.

I was having the same exact issue: not being able to access my voicemail from a cell phone or a landline (not connected to the Magick Jack). I did a tech chat reporting that I was able to access it from the softphone and the phone connected to the MJ but not other phones but the person didn't understand me. He apologized and asked me several times and repeated everything thing I typed and said "is that correct?". He then put me on hold for a while, came back and repeated the process. He then asked me again whether I could access voicemail from the phone connected to the MJ, and I said, yes, when I call my own number on the phone, I can input the code and access the voicemail. The support person then said I should not be able to call myself. I then explained, I wasn't trying to call myself, I was accessing the voicemail per the instructions on the Magic Jack website. "I see." was the reply, "that feature is not implemented yet." Then I was told that there must be something wrong with my phones and for me to contact my phone service providers. I stated I tried from many phones belonging to many providers. I then again stated that the website says to access VM you can use "any phone". The reply was "I see." and then that they are making some upgrades to the system (probably a standard phrase to end a conversation).dylan wrote:Update:

I don't like not being able to get voicemail away from home but if they implement turning it off and allowing the MJ to pick up on your own answering machine, that would be great.

Well, I'll be... I hadn't realized it before, but by gum the VM can't be retrieved from an outside phone. Never tried it till now. I only use the MJ for outgoing calls, unless someone just hits redial, so I don't think I've had any voice mail to retrieve away from the computer.
Seems a little lame, but like so many of the MJ *features*, they don't really affect me, so I guess I won't complain.
NOTE: I just did a test message to myself and had forgotten that I get an email with the VM attached with the MJ. Since I also get my email on my PDA, with the WAV file attached, I can overlook the fact that the MJ VM can't be retrieved remotely.

It would seem to be the same dtmf recognition problem that plagues MagicJack when trying to call outside voicemail and IVR systems. It does seem as though they might be working on the issue, as I haven't had near the problem with dtmf recognition in the last week or so. Maybe they are updating servers one-by-one.
I'm using MJ with GrandCentral - people never call my MJ # directly, they call my GC # which is forwarded to both - MJ and my cell. This way all my voicemails are left on GC account, and I have never had a single voicemail left on MJ yet. I guess GC just sends the call to VM a bit sooner than the MJ... Or maybe it works because I've never set up my MJ voicemail - never called my number and pressed *. Anyway, I like the way it works for me now.MJDmD wrote:I don't like not being able to get voicemail away from home but if they implement turning it off and allowing the MJ to pick up on your own answering machine, that would be great.
