Intermittant Problem With Wireless

Post by Darkman90808 »

I'm using my MJ on a laptop with a wireless connection to the router at my office. Works fine, except when I go to call out and it breaks the wireless connection. I don't have any local tech staff I can get help from, so I'm wondering if there is a setting I should look at.

I'm on a Sony Vaio, OS XP Pro SP2, connected to a lynksys wireless network with a speed of 54 Mbps and an excellent connection.

When it disconnects, it seems to hang up on the receiving party, which I've tested by calling my own 800#. I'm not consistent about changing the magicJack.exe priority setting to High or Realtime in the Windows Task Manager, but it doesn't seem to help. Any suggestions?

Do you happen to use a 2.4GHz cordless phone with your MJ? If so, the 2.4Ghz cordless phone could cause interference with your Linksys wireless (2.4Ghz) router and cause your wireless connection to drop.

That's exactly what it is... I'm using a Plantronics CT11/12 cordless headset telephone. Thanks! I'll test it with a conventional non-cordless phone.

I also use a 5.8 GHz phone because of my router and I Have a DECT 6 which I use for a regular household land line. The 5.8 or DECT 6 work great and do not interfere with my router. I had tried a 2.4 some time back because it said Wireless Network Friendly. Every time I tried to use it my laptop would disconnect. I should have know better than to believe some advertisement that I knew was phony as hell, but it was such a good looking phone and the price was right (and I wanted to believe it  ). - but thank God for Wal-Mart, they took it back no questions asked.

PS - The 2.4 that didn't work was not a cheap phone either it was a Cadillac Panasonic. I have seen people use some 2.4 phones around routers and get away with it. But it is just way more trouble than it is worth. Oh and since the DECT 6 units came out the would be my phone of choice in a wireless network environment, they are great and have tremendous talk and standby time.

My 2.4Ghz DSS Panasonic set works very well near my 2.4Ghz G routers, no problem whatsoever. My 5.8Ghz Uniden set performs just ok, not as good as my 2.4 Ghz DSS Panasonic. I guess YMMV :)

Many "5.8 GHz" phones only use that band for base->handset, still using 2.4 GHz for handset->base. See http://telecom.hellodirect.com/docs/Tut ... 1903-P.asp .

I know I am going to regret asking this but what does "I guess YMMV" mean?
