Phone Selection

Post by enyaw »

I've had my magic jack for about a month now but because they don't have Canadian numbers yet I've only been using it for outgoing calls. I tried phoning myself and the mj phone didn't ring just hung up. Called tech support here and they called back and said try changing phones. I did and now I can make outgoing calls. It rings on my end but not on receiving end. Sooo, I changed back to the other phone and now we are back to the first problem. Does anyone know if there is a particular phone set that works well with MJ? or some other solution.

Thanks

enyaw,

Having a little trouble following you. You said you have been using it for a month making outgoing calls you changed phones and now you can make outgoing calls?

Anyway to answer your question I personally have not run into a phone that did not work. But I personally have used a corded $7 Wal-Mart special worked fine, I have used Panasonics 5.8 GHz cordless and it works fine (actually great). I only picked the 5.8 because I bought the Panasonic Detec 6 for my Mother and I didn't want to try another Detec 6 in the same house. My Daughter is using and older model Vtec 5.8 I gave her and it works greats. I gave my sister a really old Vtec 5.8 and it also works great. Sorry I don't have the model numbers of the units they have. but the one I am currently using is a Panasonic KX-TG6021 and it is excellent.

I don't have any reason for picking the 5.8 other than I don't have to worry about clobbering my wireless network and like I said my mother has the Detec 6 frequencies bought up.

I was unclear before but one phone would allow outgoing only and the other incoming. But I just heard from themagicjack.ca and it seems that there is a new upgrade to fix this problem available now. Thanks

Well you are welcome for the moral support and I am glad that MJ has a fix for you.

Now I would like to ask a favor of you can you post the patch for this problem or a link to it. I am sure there are plenty of other folks that would love to get their hands on it.

Regards,

Fixed

I just ran magic fix and all is working great. Better reception also. Seems there is a roaming fix depending on where you are - or so they say.

enyaw, Now that is pretty interesting. Sounds like MJ is starting to get much more sophisticated in their old age.

Thanks for the tip, I have not run MagicFIX in some time because I had let myself believe they had let it become stagnant. Goes to show you what I know. and a bad habit of making assumptions.
