Newbie Questions

Post by Doobles »

I am probably going to order magic Jack tomorrow. Now that Cable Internet has FINALLY arrived in my area, I want to dump DSL, and my land phone. The local phone company here is evil.. Long story but at least my phone won't be listed anymore as the General Clinic in town.

I am probably going to just have Magic Jack for a land phone and use grand central for a semi-local number. I still have a cell phone if Magic Jack fails.

Sorry if these questions were asked on this forum before.. but can you wire magic jack to your phone outlets? And if you have 3 phones hooked up will it cause Magic Jack to puke? :)

Also.. How good is it for faxing? I only fax once or twice a month, but I would like to still be able to fax..

Do many retailers sell Magic Jack? Can I pick one up at a local Best Buy or Circuit City rather than use the mail order website?

The mail order site is offering 5 years of service for an additional $40 and some odd dollars.. Sweet!!

Lots have done it with success. You will have to disconnect your telco from the main box

Faxing is unreliable and may take some fine tuning. Search the forum for tips

It is easiest to just use some cordless expandable phones. Although, you can wire all the phones in your house using this method (or reading this thread)

Faxing over VoIP is notoriously bad. Try setting the connection speed to the slowest possible.

There are some... I've seen a few stores in NYC that had them... Try reading this thread for some stores...
