If I'm downloading from internet or using programs on my pc such as dvd burning software, will that interfere with the quality
of the call when using magicjack? Thank you
Stupid question

On my Dell 2.8Ghz 1G RAM, MJ uses about 5-15% CPU time during a call. With MJ active on a call, I am able to use DVDshrink, Firefox, email program at the same time for overall 50% CPU usage with no degradation in MJ voice quality. I haved used Nero to burn a DVD while talking on MJ without any issue. Of course, YMMV

Yes downloading and\or uploading in particular will hurt call quality.....While running utorrent when a call comes in it's best to pause the torrents otherwise people have a hard time hearing me due to the sound breaking up. I have a comcast cable modem and if I limit utorrent bandwidth to 40KB/s it seems to work fine.
Say it ain't so.
Its all about bandwidth........if you have a halfway decent computer and a high speed INTERNET connection it is not a problem to multi-task. The fact is if you have too many Apps open and are using to much of your CPU processing power you will have a problem, doesn't matter if your using MagicJack or looking at .. To much is to much,if it hurts when you do that don't do that ......LOL

Naw, I don't think that's a stupid question, because it does seem kind-of like both things would be at least somewhat bandwidth-use- or processor-use-intensive.
MJ uses less than 100Kbps. So if you have broadband cable or FiOS service providing 5 or 10 MBps, MJ is only a blip on the overall bandwidth used. But if your machine is CPU challenged and you might have some problems. Also if you're on a heavily used cable-provided broadband loop (e.g., all your neighbors on the local loop - which is shared on a cable broadband system - and all of them are downloading HD video), you might have a problem.
Agreed...I just figured this out today. Utorrent severely breaks up the call.HemiRick wrote:Yes downloading and\or uploading in particular will hurt call quality.....While running utorrent when a call comes in it's best to pause the torrents otherwise people have a hard time hearing me due to the sound breaking up.
