Question about Verizon number porting policy

Post by drivers93 »

I'm considering switching from Verizon to MJ+ and porting over my 2 phone numbers. I'll be asking Verizon shortly, but does anyone know offhand if Verizon allows customers to port numbers BACK to them if things don't work out with MJ+?

thanks.

You are unlikely to have any heartache from Verizon should you decide to port your numbers back to them.

You are very likely to have a difficult time getting MJ to release the numbers. Despite the rules being very clear that they must release the numbers, you need to understand that you will then be dealing with MJ Customer Service. You will be trying to get them to help you reduce their revenue stream. You can read the stories here of people trying to get help when they are trying to give MJ more money. Can you imagine how helpful they will be when you want to divorce from them?

You need to understand the rules of engagement, as set forth by the FCC. First and foremost, the "losing" telephone service account must be in good standing at the time of porting out.

As far as Verizon is concerned, that means that your account must be in good standing with no overdue payments hanging over the account.

With MJ, however, since you have an annual contract with no current monthly bill to pay, this means that you must have enough residual time on your MJ when you submit your LNP order to your new phone company that your MJ account will still be active and be prior to renewal at the time that MJ gets around to actually processing your order. What do you think the chances are that your MJ will be expired by the time your LNP order gets to the top of the queue? What do you think your chances are of successfully purchasing an additional year of service once MJ learns of your intention to port out your number?

I would be very hesitant to port any number into MJ that I would not be willing to lose forever at their whim.

I could be way off base here. Or not. Do any other members have specific stories of success or failure to tell regarding porting a ported-in number back out of MJ?

use your "free" new MJ numbers first, leave the others with Verizon and only move them over to replace MJ numbers when you are sure you are "happy" with MJ

Don't forget

You missed an important part of the 'divorce' agreement. You will receive very insistent pleas from MJ to pay a $30 number transfer fee. This is strictly a last-ditch money grab by MJ and can be ignored with impunity. You will see numerous mentions of this little trick in the annals of this forum.
If you pay this extortion, you are truly a sucker....

Best advice is to only entrust your valuable numbers to a trustworthy TISP and stay as far away from MJ as is possible.

I have been a follower of MJ for nearly 7 years and I would never put myself, my family or my business in a situation where I was dependent on them as my sole source for phone service. You should have your head examined if you do so.

Almost ANY TISP will provide a lower cost phone service than MJ/YMAX. Don't tempt fate by going to the cheapest supplier.
Good Luck
