Automated phone system misinterprets number presses

Post by fjawodfc »

I just started trying out a MagicJack Plus connected directly to a router. It works okay overall but I'm having trouble dialing into the automated conferencing system at work. The problem is that the first digit always gets repeated. For example, when I enter the conference ID 123456 it thinks I entered 1123456. Occasionally another digit will get repeated too and it will hear something like 11233456.

I tried a voice call and could hear what's happening. The tone for the first digit goes ba-beep with a brief pause in the middle. Subsequent digits have a smooth, continuous tone. It's not a problem with our landline and the same phone. It also works fine with the MagicJack connected to a PC using either the application or phone to dial. It's only a problem when connected directly to a router. I suspect it's a bug in the MagicJack's internal firmware.
