Bluetooth and Android App

Post by harmonic »

Hello, tech support was insanely unhelpful - so i'm hoping that someone here has had the same problem and a solution, or at least some ideas I have not tried!

All I want is to use BlueTooth and MagicJack (Android App) together. I've only had MJ for a few days now but i'm next to positive that this was working when I first installed the app, and MJ tech support assured me MJ App is compatible with bluetooth.

As of yesterday, it is not working. I can pair the phone and headset fine. My mobile line works flawlessly, but when I get an incomming call on MJ, bluetooth is not an option.

I have tried:
  • *force close and restart app
    *restart phone
*re-pair phone and headset (multiple times)
*re-pair after starting MJ, and reverse order
    *clear app cache and data
    *reinstall app
*even did a factory reset on my phone
I also know it's not my headset because it does not work even if I pair it with my computer,

Still no luck. This is very frustrating as I need bluetooth for long conference calls and in the car.

Any ideas?

It it possible you just recently upgraded to JellyBean 4.3 on your android device?

Running 4.2.1 on a Nexus 2.

And bluetooth is working perfectly on my normal cellular line, just not magic jack.

Can't think of any upgrades, apps, or system settings that have changed since the problem started either :(

Sorry, now I get what you're asking. Consider repairing the bluetooth device.

We're seeing people having a lot of problems with JellyBean. If repairing does not fix the problem, you may have to live with it. Please do NOT upgrade to JellyBean 4.3 if magicJack app is important to you. Currently 4.3 seems incompatible with the app on many devices. No changes have been made to the app since July 9, 2013. We're waiting to see whether magicJack fixes the app.

Thanks for the help. I saw that same thread (even though it is a different problem) and repairing was the first thing I tried.

Even changed the order, so running MJ, then pairing bluetooth, or pairing bluetooth THEN running MJ. No matter what it wont work.

Even factory reset my phone in case another app was interfering.

Looks like i'll have to live with it for now :(

Any idea if/when an update to the app will happen?

magicJack is notoriously slow and close-lipped with updates on almost everything. I wish I had better information for you. :(

Haha was afraid of that. Thanks for your help though! You've been infinity more productive than the MJ tech support (which I think is an automated machine).

Talk Free just updated the Android app.
It might be worth checking the update to see if pairing works for your bluetooth now.

I got really excited when I saw the update - I mean, the same day I was asking about when they are going to update next, they update?

Unfortunately, no luck :(

But there is now a close app button!
