WOW - sneaky website ordering

Post by eddieras »

OK - i've been interested in this product for a few weeks and did see some of the naysayers but also a lot of people who raved about it. today i went to order one - i declined all the extras but when i got to the 'order a second one' page i decided to go for two. at the review order page before submitting i notice it was applying a charge for the 2nd one immediately. so before submitting the order i opened another browser and went to search FAQ's. then the original submit order page refreshed and said 'thanks for your order'!! needless to say i was not happy as i never submitted the order myself.
i went on the chat but that was no help- he said the 2nd one doesn't come under the 30 day money back guarantee. so not only did the order go thru illegally, i would suggest, but there was no mention of the 2nd unit not falling under the money back guarantee. i wanted to actually speak with someone, but he said there was not a telephone number nor direct email contact - only tech chat. then i was still typing a response and he ended my chat! i clicked on email me transcript but have yet to see it too...

so - i called my credit card company and will dispute the entire charge. this is very unfortunate because i really wanted to like this product!

i do have the tel numbers and email contact from this board and will be calling them as well, but one must question their practices when an order goes thru on its own-- usually it times out and you have to reorder everything! that is pretty sleazy if you ask me...

Sleazy????

Post by JayThree »

I have found that when something I order online goes wrong, it is usually my fault. I did something I shouldn't have, like hitting a wrong key or something. Don't worry about it. The magicjack works like a charm. It's a great device. I have two. Giving one to my daughter for international calls.

well, thanks for putting my mind at ease regarding the product itself-- that's good to hear. however, i can assure you i did not put that order thru - i was no longer even on that order summary page, as i was in another browser looking thru the FAQ's when suddenly that browser refreshed and popped up with it now stating "Thanks for your order"!

The BlackJack website did the same thing to me!!! I did not even open another IE window. I left the screen on the order review, walking away to answer the front door. When I returned no more than five minutes later, sure enough - my order was already placed for me without hitting the submit button. My screen saver doesn't kickin for 10 minutes, so it was not that either.

Did you order from http://www.magicjack.com site or no? You are talking about this page right? Make sure you include what site you ordered from in your post.

About the chat transcript, did you use a free email account like yahoo, hotmail etc? Sometimes it will go straight to your spam/bulk folder, and if you have that folder on auto delete then you wont see it... Plus magicjack tech chat uses liveperson and the tech chat staff has no control over email transcript function, only the admin can turn it off if he didnt want that option, but then you wont see that option if it was off.

MJ order

Post by Doobles »

That happened to me last week when I ordered. When I got to the shopping cart, I was undecided with the 5 year service, or ordering more than one. The 30 day trial wasn't there for five year plans, if you order more than one Magic Jack, the faster shipping method wasn't on the 30 day trial either. If you order anything extra besides one Magic Jack, They zap your card right away for the extras. Only one Magic Jack will be charged on the 30 day trial. I decided to close the shopping card window and wait for my payroll check to clear at the bank to order. A few minutes later I got a order confirmation e-mail sent to me. I hit reply on the order confirmation, told them I didn't submit the order, I wanted a few more days to think about how many years I want, how many Magic Jacks I wanted to order, and faster shipping. 10 minutes later I got an e-mail back saying my order was cancelled. I had no trouble with customer support. I did not use the chat thing.. I just replied to the order confirmation e-mail.

I wouldn't say it was a scam.. It looks like an error in Magic Jack's order system. I know I did not submit the order. My wife was with me, saw the charges, and told me I should wait for my payroll check to clear before I order. Which I did.. I think it mentioned the first magic Jack would be billed in 30 days. The 2nd Magic Jack, extended 5 year service, and faster shipping billed right away.

I ordered a Jack and although the postal service says it was delivered, I did not receive it. I contacted the PO and they said unless it was insured, there was nothing they could do. I contacted the Jacks "customer service" and got some vague response
that was suppose to pass as help.

I am concerned that they do not want to give a shipping address that the PO asked for or a phone number to actually talk to someone.

Supposedly they are elevating my concern to a higher representative but I am not holding my breath. I did get the email for Dan and a couple of phone numbers off this site, so maybe they will be useful.

I like you just had to have this....even though my better judgement said BIG MISTAKE, but I ordered anyway. The Magic Jack has not been shipped yet, even though I selected the rush order for $3.95...of course my card was charged the full amount of the product and not as specified on there site or in the conformation:

Conformation email:
[QUOTE]Your credit card will be charged on or after the
following date(s) for the amounts listed below

Date: 05/15/2008 Charge Amount: $3.95
Date: 06/13/2008 Charge Amount: $46.90

If and when it comes I hope there is no problem getting it up and running because I can see nothing but problems getting any money back from these people without a bank charge back!!!

In closing most of these offers are just to good to be true and they know that, when they take your money

Still Hoping there are some honest people out there $#%@

i started this thread and wasnt' happen with the ordering- however they did take care of the problem - i've since got the MJ and i could not get it installed on one desktop- i did get it installed effortlessly on another - both xp sp2 - i tweaked it a bit and now seems to be working fine- i still hearing some beeps, cracks - but not too bad - this on the receving end when i make outgoing calls- sound quality on my end (after making the call) is really good- my voip test scores were decent. i tried australia and got thru without a problem but my friend wasn't there (damn time change) but i'm to call him again tonite and hopefully he'll hear me fine! 2 cents/ minute is great - IF he can hear me....

The same thing happened to me and I contacted the live chat. The lady was really nice and told me that what happens is......"the bank may put the amount on hold."

So your bank statement probably says: Pending. At least mine does. Its kind of like making a reservation for a Motel on your credit card. They already sort of charge you for the amount but the amount is just "floating" around somewhere between the bank and the retailer. Know what I mean? SO yeah you can't use the money cause its not in the account anymore, but magic jack has not received it yet either. If you decide to send it back that charge will just drop of your account and the money will be made available to you. At least that is how I understood. I have not received mine yet.....hopefully tomorrow since I paid for the express shipping!

hmmm....That dose sorta make sense. Will know in a few days if the charge clears and escalates from pending to actual charge. The RUSH charge was to be charged immediately and my account should have seen a charge for $3.95, but the whole amount of $50.58 was charged.....

Yep does the same here and I also got another $1 charge pending from them I guess that was kind of to see if my card was legit when I ordered it 2 days ago. I used to work at a call center for a credit card company and people would always complaint about their card being denied, come to find out that it was maxed out because they had some Hotel Reservation on there. So I guess they work it the same way just that some banks show it as pending and some don't, but depends on how the bank handles the charge. I am just glad I found this Forum because now if something doesn't work and I don't know how to get it to work someone here may know it. So sending the thing back will be very unlikely unless I receive a defective one, but then I will just exchange it! Good Luck!!!!

I have a pending authorization for $93.80 on my credit card and I just received this on Thursday. I thought we had a 30 day trial?? I asked the CSR about the status of pending and she said it will remain there until the merchant removes it.

Care to elaborate on your issue?

What happens when you plug MJ into usb port?
Can you run the fix here http://tinyurl.com/27pzpm ?..If so what the results
Any error codes?
Have you all the current windows(hardware, driver) updates?
What is your puter system and OS ?
Is MJ plugged directly into a usb port, or are you using the cable provided?
Tried another usb port, or puter?

Not a pro here and...Dan should not hire me!!LOL.. You may want to start another thread pertaining to your issue, so others can join in and help...Good Luck

I went through the process and ordered on with shipping for $46.90. The confirmation email said I ordered 2. I objected several times saying I would just cancel the charge since I could prove that it was an unauthorized charge.. Anyway they finally confirmed my order for one and I got it about 4 days later. Still no charge to the credit card. Should be charged next week.

Plugged the thing in and after registration, got my number assigned after 5 mintues and been making calls ever since. Some calls (about 1 in 10 ) are weird but the rest are rock-solid and better than Skype or Vonage. The weird is a random clicking every few minutes. Not a deal breaker but strange.

I would report it is it was easy but screw them and their chat lines. They would probably deny it anyway. So far so good. One of the best values of my recent purchases.
For the fun of it....Keith

My experience

Post by lalahem »

A co-worker of mine brought it in to work and raved about it, so I went to the website and ordered it. It wasn't until after the deed was done that I found all this horrible feedback and such.
I have to say that everything has come to pass as expected.

The credit card was charged for the shipping amount only, the 39.xx has not been charged to my account yet.
The product arrived and installed quickly and easily
It works fine as a soft phone, using computer mic/headset, no special equipment needed
I have it hooked up to a cordless phone that I had lying around unused, no real problems, the following observations
a. the sound is a little tinny to the people that I am calling, but not all the time.
b. the quality is worse if the house phone is in use
c. suspect that we are experiencing signal overlap, as I use cordless for the other line as well.
d. I am a vonage customer, don't know if the bandwidth is being sucked up and that contributes to the tinnyness
IF the MJ phone is the only one in use, nobody I am talking to knows the difference.
My computer has not crashed
I have had no reason to call support or customer service, so I can't speak to the level or quality of service in that area

My friend has had NO difficulty with his purchase either.

the last phase of implementation will be the internation dialing, and if that goes smoothly, we will be cancelling Vonage.
So I am a very satisfied customer to date.

It is not that first page that submits itself. It is the following two pages. The first being the page that offers the $59.95 five year plan. If you sit their too long it will automatically go to the next page which gives you choices for the second adapter and expedited shipping. And again, if you sit there for too long it will automatically go to the Order Complete! page. I ordered today and this happened to me. I am ok with my order since it only submitted for one adapter, but I was considering the $59.95 plan.

MJ ordering

Post by mrtrex »

Had the same "auto ordering " thing happen to me. Did the "chat thing" and it was resolve in a matter of seconds. Took me several minutes to recover from that ! After all the bad reviews I'd read on here about CS Chat...a pleasent suprise. Yes, most folks will have a"hissy"over the charges..so did I..but apon further review...Charges were simply pending. Ordered one with the fast shipping..they froze the full amount (bank, not MJ) until the unit shipped (2-3 days) then the $3.95 came off and the rest of the pending amount was released. ( one unit + fast ship) Install was not 1-2-3...luckly i'm not a puter idoit so was able to get it up and running in about 15 min. Calls have been very good compaired to dig.cable and vonage and embarq...most folks can't tell the differance local or long distance..Great on both ends. Don't like how much CPU % it hogs. I'm running a 3.0HT with 4GB of DDR memory ..idle give me 1-0 % ..MJ at idle takes up near 50% ...thats too much guys..ya got to work on that part..ad's or no ad's.
