Magic Jack Plus 2014 & U-Verse not working w/modem

Okay, we just went to Wal-Mart and got a Magic Jack Plus 2014. We have AT&T U-verse. Our computer at home runs wirelessly using Netgear. We used the USB on the computer to register the MJ and at the end, I clicked on the "use modem" option, not the "use with computer" option. Went and plugged everything in with the modem and nothing except the "3002 error" that means there is an error with the internet connection. Called AT&T to make sure we were not limited to a number of connections (I should mention that nothing is plugged into the modem via Ethernet except the MJ). Tried rebooting the modem, and same issue. We unplugged everything and connected the MJ into the USB port on the computer and everything worked perfectly. Moved it back to the modem and same problem - 3002 error. We don't want to use the MJ with the computer because we don't want the computer on all the time. MJ has no support number to call them, just chat. Anybody have this issue and find a work around? My modem is AT&T's black NVG510. Thank you!

First, it looks like you have a modem/router combo, so there should be nothing that is keeping you from using the magicJack.

I know it might seem counter intuitive, but some people have said they have better luck if they place the magicJack on a switch between the router interface on the NVG510 and the magicJack. Another possibility would be to buy another router and use the DHCP of that router on a different subnet behind the NVG510.

For instance, since the gateway for the NVG510 is 192.168.1.254, you could use 192.168.0.1 as the new router's DHCP gateway to the NVG510, thus better blocking AT&T's NVG510 from easily discovering all your devices and co-opting your privacy.
