was 7 digits now 10 for local calls
I use magic jack service through a PAP2 connecting to their proxy1.denver.talk4free.com. Until sometime mid morning today I made local calls by dialing the appropriate 7-digit number. I am in a part of the country where that's what we do. Not long ago I tried a call in my phone's speed dial and got the message that I needed to dial the area code also. I now need ten digit dialing. INTERESTING!

You're right! My guess is that this is MJ's lame way of 'fixing' the problems that plagued 7-digit dialing.enotz wrote: Not long ago I tried a call in my phone's speed dial and got the message that I needed to dial the area code also. I now need ten digit dialing. INTERESTING!
However, since you are using a PAP2, you can set up the dial plan to fill in your local area code when you dial 7 digits. There is a decent tutorial here: http://www.netphonedirectory.com/pap2_dialplan.htm .
If you use their example, a 7-digit number will be sent immediately, so you'll need to dial 1+arecode+number to dial out of your area. Or, you can leave out the S0 at the end, in which case it will work the old way (you can dial 10 digits if desired, but a 7-digit call will have a few second's added delay).

ATAs aren't officially allowed yet. The ads in the MagicWindow are part of MJ's projected revenue stream and using an ATA deprives MJ of ad revenue and/or any clicks you may use to access a product that is advertised. Course, I haven't seen a single ad yet except for MJ ads but that's besides the point.enotz wrote:Stewart, thanks for the reply, makes complete sense, and I did now set a dial plan.
Kingfisher, why the advise here about secrecy?

I don't understand all the fuss about dialing 10 digits.....here in my home town, we've had to dial the area code & number for several years now. In my town, we have three area codes for the same city........population growth to be the reason? I think so......you can call the same 7 digits, but with the different area code and reach three different people.
