Calling International

Post by cwis109 »

Hello everyone,

I am not sure is this normal or not on MJ.

When dialed international, I got the message -

- You have xx minutes. Please wait you call is being routed.

Then quiet, no ringing on the other end (I used to hear the other phone ringing on regular phone).

I can't tell if the other end answer or not. I have to wait in quiet mode till they say "hello".

Is this normal?

Thanks,
cw

It's definitely not normal, and is most likely a server-side bug, though it's possible that the server is sending a signaling sequence that is valid, but the softphone is not handling it correctly. IMO, it is unlikely that there is a workaround at your end, though some troubleshooting on your part may allow you to submit a more detailed trouble report, which may help get the problem fixed faster.

If you want to see what is going wrong, Wireshark is a good tool. Capture the traffic on a failed call, save it to disk, and report the sequence of SIP requests and responses. Wireshark will also allow you to save the voice packets to a file, so you can play them on your PC. First, practice on some (free) domestic calls, so you'll be sure to do it right when you call overseas.
