Post by eddieras »

just got my magicjack-

using xp sp2
closed down nortons
tried 2 different usb ports and a powered hub
did the 'magicfix'
did the upgrade

and still no software download- the blue lite is on ... i went thru all the steps except tech support- felt i'd have better luck here from what i've read!

i also did went into the processes to close down the ones suggested but none of them were listed there--

not sure (short of tech) what else to do- i searched herre but didn't find anything and online help at magicjack hasnt' helped!

Please describe exactly what happens when you plug the MJ device into your PC? Do you see 2 magicjack drives in "My Computer"?

If MJ device is correctly installed, you'll see in "My Computer" 2 magicjack drives:
- "magicjack" virtual CDrom drive
- "phone (Vista only)" or "magicjack (Vista only)" removable flash drive

Hold down the Windows key and press E; a window titled 'My Computer' should open. Go to Tools->Folder Options, click the View tab. Make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' is selected, and that 'Hide extensions for known file types' is not checked. Click OK.

The two MJ drives should appear in the left pane (along with other stuff).

For each of these drives: report what the name and the drive letter is. Click each name and report what files, if any, appear in the right-hand pane.

ok - the drives are H and I - both titled magicJack (exact spelling/capital J)

there's nothing under H
and under I is
a magicJack folder with 'autorun' in the folder

that's it-

thanks so much for your help on this!

The first magicJack drive (H) should be a CDROM drive and should contain 3 files: autorun.exe, autorun.ico and autorun.inf. If nothing is there then the MJ device was not initialized or installed correctly. I believe you will need to download & run the mjrecover_setup.exe program to reinitialize the device as it comes out from factory.
