Whats the minimum broadband speed to use magicjack?

Post by mark40511 »

A friend of mine wants to get broadband lite dsl which is 586kpbs down. Since its considered broadband will MJ work with that speed? I myself have 6000 down and it works great most of the time. I love it.

MJ calls require 80Kb/s UP and 80Kb/s DOWN, so technically broadband services with 128K up, 128K down should suffice. However, the advertised Up/DOWN speeds are not guaranteed & maintained 100% of the time. Other important factors such as lag time (slow response,) network congestion, etc could also cause your internet speed to go down hill. Based on my testing with different broadband speeds, I'd say that you should have at least 256K up/256K down for MJ calls to work reliably. Your mileage may vary as always
