HI all.
I just installed MJ this weekend and had problems off and on.
Now, it seems as long as I keep my land line unplugged from the wall, my MJ works fine.
What if I want to keep my land line (for faxing) and use MJ for longdistance?
Does MJ not allow a land line in the house??
Please don't get too technical as I do not understand VOIP phones (I'm a land line dinosaur)
Thanks

MJ has nothing to do with your landline... MJ plugs into your pc... are you sure you have MJ?deltona_fl wrote:HI all.

Okay let me explain further. My GE telephone is hooked into MJ which is on the back of my computer in USB.
I dug out an old push button phone and hooked it to the wall telephone outlet in another room.
(I don't want to get rid of land line until I'm sure MJ will work as my one and only telephone)
I can live without the fax machine.
So, what I did was attach old fashion CI box to wall, so I can monitor who has called me on my ('old land line number).
As soon as I plug the old phone into the CI box, poof.... MJ disconnects while I AM TALKING!
I go to old phone, disconnect it from CI box and things seem to work fine.
Can I live with MJ as my one and only phone?
PS: Another Question. I've called and tested my MJ from another phone, and my original answering machine on my GE phone answered the call with my GE Answering machine message. Today, upon seeing my sister called my new MJ, I rang her back and asked if my MJ worked. She said that the phone did ring, but there was not an answering machine. So, does that mean that sometimes my answering machine in my GE phone works and sometimes it doesn't????
Now, back to the RJ11 Phone AB 2 way switch box..... do I get one of those from RadioShack???
Snafu2, thank you very much for your help.

snafu2 wrote:You could get a RJ11 Phone AB 2 way switch box. Put your land line on one input, MJ on the other input. Put phone fax on output jack. Not a good idea to have a land line hooked up to the MJ. The ring voltage from an incoming call on the land line could damage the MJ.

That makes me laugh really hard for some reason.
Yeah I always seem to forget about those darn DSL filters.
Good thing I have one phone jack dedicated to DSL so I don't need the filters anymore.
Yay!
I wouldn't use magicjack as my one and only telephone if I where you.
MJ is not ready for that IMHO.
It's an alright solution for some people, though.
If you end up getting rid of your landline, remember you get DSL through the phone.
