Help w/corless phone
I have a vtech 5.8 ghz cordless phone but I cannot get it to work with my new MJ. I am on comcast. Any ideas?
Re: Help w/corless phone
I am using a vtech 5.8 cordless system with four handsets. It works great! Caller ID works fine and no trouble with ringing when placed on any USB port I have on five different computer.jlafond wrote:I have a vtech 5.8 ghz cordless phone but I cannot get it to work with my new MJ. I am thinking it must be something else. Do other phones work ok?
I get a dial tone on my cordless and when I dial the number it appears on the soft phone but then nothing happens the phone is silent. I have not tried another phone, I don't have any others. Does is matter if it is on pulse or tone? I called my new MJ number from my cell and I received one response to check the number and retry. The second time I did it, I was told that the personal I was calling was unavailable, so it received my voicemail.
I am on Vista.

Does it say Ready to Call and show your number at the top of the magicJack Window?jlafond wrote:I get a dial tone on my cordless and when I dial the number it appears on the soft phone but then nothing happens the phone is silent. Yes, I got a number assigned. I know the number is working because I tried calling it from my cell and on two ocassions is went to voicemail. However, the handset never rang. When I tried to make an outgoing call I can dial but after that the line is just silent. The Do Not Disturb is not on. I confirmed that under the menu function that I have selected telephone. Any other suggestions?
It sounds as if something is blocking one of the ports magicJack needs to communicate on. Make sure ports 5060 and 5070 are not being blocked by your router or anti-virus software.jlafond wrote:The softphone reads please connect to the internet and click here. When I try this it asks me to login, I click next and it brings me right back to the soft phone.

Turn off the whole security suite - antivirus and all then restart the computer. That may give you some information to work with. That's how I pinned down McAffee because it wasn't shutting down all the way. Also, unplug the MJ while your computer boots up. I'm not saying this will work, but that's what they had me do and I was able to troubleshoot from there.
Windows Vista and Laptop with XP SP2 on the road. Occasionally, a Mac if my Windows machine isn't working.
Without magicJack plugged in try going to http://www.testyourvoip.com/ . Test your capability to use VOIP and pay attention to the messages at the top. See if it says it could not use port 5060 and is using an alternative port.jlafond wrote:Thanks for the tip. I tried shutting off my firewall for a quick test. No luck.

THIS IS HOW TO PROPERLY FIX FOR V TECH 5.8
I had the same problem, remember this is not land line, but rather a relay of information or packet transfered and they are converted by the way it was engineered all you have to do is change your DIAL MODE TO TONE IS YOU USE PULSE ITS LIKE A RELAY LEFT WITHOUT PACKETS!!!. JUST CHANGE IT TO TONE and you should be good to go. ALso you can test is once you have changed it look at the MJ soft phone and make sure once you press a digit it appears on the dialer.
