I used MJ for about 6 weeks with a Panasonics cordless and a cheap regular corded phone with no issues; one day there was not dialtone and I tried two different computers and these two phones one at the time; if I switch to headsets it works fine. MJ tech support is unable to help me (after about 10 hours of deleting, reloading, changing registry, etc). The sad true I learned from tech support is that after 30 days of your purchase there is not warranty or repair for the device and your only option is to buy another one and then "plug and pray"
Tech support directed me to the "terms of use" pointing out there is nothing there that stays you will get warraties or fixes after keeping the device for more than 30 days.
Here is my advise to MJ users: "unless you are bured and want to waste your time with MJ tech support, don't contact them after 30 days of your purchase"
Does the blue light come on? TigerJet sound card appear in Device Manager? Shown as Working OK? If you switch to Telephone but dial with the softphone, can you hear anything on the phone?
The fix did not help, the blue light is on; TargetJet appears in the USB tab, not in the sound tab.
If I take the phone off the hook, I still don't hear dialtone, there is no changes in the softphone screen, still reads "ready to call"; then dialing from the softphone I can poorly hear the phone on the other side ringing thru the phone speaker and the voice if somebody answers; with a very bad quality but on the phone's speaker.
Based on your description, it appears that the MJ device has suffered a hardware failure. You could confirm that further by running the diagnostic program from tjnet.com . Just start it, wait for it to recognize your MJ (if it doesn't, that's probably a hardware defect), then click on Audio Test and follow the instructions. If you hear garbled, weak, or no playback, it's almost certainly hardware trouble, because this is a very simple program that does not depend on any other software, except the Microsoft drivers.
While it's conceivable that such trouble could be caused by the phone or the PC's USB power supply, you have tried both another phone and another PC, so that's extremely unlikely.
Perhaps if you write to Dan or one of the other key people, they'll send you a replacement unit. I don't believe that there is anything you could do to fix it yourself, with reasonable effort.
I have the same problem with MJ, my cordless phone says "line in use" and I do not have a dial tone. I have been using magicJack since February 2008 and I have had no problems until a week ago. I can make calls fine thru the soft phone, but not thru my cordless phone. I switched to a corded phone and still no dial tone. So I contacted tech support today and after two hours chatting with them, trying all the fixes they could think of, I still have the same problem. I had already figured it was a hardware problem even before I talked with tech support because I am very good with electronics and computers, but I still had to go thru the grueling tasks with them. After the two hours they realized there was nothing they could do to fix the problem. So then they offered to send me a replacement and I agreed. They said all I have to do is return my magicJack after I receive the replacement they are sending. They said I would receive a confirmation e-mail about the replacement but I have not received that yet. So, we will see what happens, I have my fingers crossed. Hopefully they will send me the replacement and all I will have to do is spend a few dollars shipping the defective MJ back to them.
Pancho, if you haven't already asked for a replacement at no charge, I would talk to tech-support again and request a replacement.

The problem here is that my time is worth more than $10/hour or even $20/hour. And I quite sure MJ's margins are such that a 2 hour techsupport chat is more costly than an MJ replacement. So isn't there a more efficient way of getting a replacement ?
I have a similar issue -- my MJ has suffered a hardware failure. I need to get it replaced, but not at the cost of 2+ hours of chat...
If you do not want to sit at your computer typing at these people ..
what I did was make a list of everything I had done in notepad
AND everything they had ask me to do in the past ..
and when the person came on line I C&P all the stuff from notepad to there chat box
and of course they come up with one more thing to try -- I had
already done that - so waited abt 20 sec's and type done - still same ..
This cuts down on re-boot computer - plug in / out MJ ETC --

I did receive my replacement MJ as promised and I'm mailing the defective one back. I would say, even though it was a daunting task chatting with tech support, it was worth getting a free MJ. I would recommend contacting with tech support, for me it was better that dishing out $39.95 + S/H for a new one.
I found Wireless adapters like linksys and belkin installed on a desktop PC WILL interfere with the magic jack. Might work the first couple of times, then nothing.
Don't know if thats your problem, but it drove me nuts on two desktops here at home. Finally figured it out when the MJ worked on our two laptops.
