MJ desktop shortcut regenerates upon reboot (XP)

Post by mistertee »

Hello,

I installed MJ on my XP (SP2) machine a few days ago. It seems to be working well but I've run into an annoyance I can't resolve. I don't want a desktop shortcut however If I delete it, it always regenerates when I reboot. Does anyone know of a workaround?

Thanks,
-Mike

If you do not use the MJ softphone to place/receive calls, you could install MJ as a service. Check the "magicJack Tips, Tricks, and Hacks" forum for tips on how to install MJ as a service. No more MJ icon on desktop, no more MJ flash startup screen.

I'm a total novice on MJ but it looks like the desktop shortcut/icon is regenerated upon reboot by "magicJackLoader.exe". Even if you customize the icon (using a blank transparent icon for example) it will be deleted and then replaced by the original MJ icon when you reboot. Very odd! It's difficult to understand why the developer hasn't included user selectable options for shortcuts, splash screen, softphone UI launching, etc.

It looks like that's the only viable workaround for the time being. I'll give it a try. Thanks!

I have no choice, the stupid device will not ring n my phone, although it did when first installed.
