Dialup ReplayTV DVR

I was curious if anyone had managed to get a dialup ReplayTV to connected for updates via their MagicJack? I have read a few things on people using DSL filters and lowering the speed down to 9600bps. I have tried without success may combinations of the above. I know some have managed to get fax machines to work, and I don't see the difference with a ReplayTV. (granted i'm not expert on the subject) Please let me know if anyone has some advice here as my lifetime subscription is almost out the window if I can't see to get this to work.

I'm sorry if I was not clear, you are correct as to what a ReplayTV is. What happens is every night it dials up via a modem connection in the back of the device to download the TV schedule and such. I can not seem to get it to dial up using MagicJack, yet I have read that others have got it to work. Just looking for some advice. I do not want to get a new ReplayTV with a network connection as it won't have my lifetime subscription for downloads on it and I no longer have any other phone other then my MagicJack and cell phone.

I have a Showstopper, and am currently trying to set it up so it dials through the MagicJack. I tried a DSL filter, and lowering the baud rate all the way down to 9600, and it still doesn't work, Sometimes it goes to "Connecting" but then the connection fails. Most times it doesn't pass the "Dialing" stage.

You need to drop the connection speed lower. If you can, limit the speed to 2400bps, which is the fastest speed that still uses pure audio tones to communicate.

9600 is the minimum the replay will take.

Then, you will need to keep your ReplayTV plugged into your POTS phone. VoIP and v.42bis just don't get along, because the G.711's digitization process is naturally lossy, which v.42bis cannot recover from but your human ear cannot detect.

You will be able to craft a workable negotiation between your modem and the MJ by using an ATA like the Linksys PAP2, which has the flexibility with its internal programming to overcome the limitations your are experiencing.

Plenty of info at dslreports voip forum for configuring a PAP2 to work with a modem.
