Can MJ detect a Bluetooth headset when it is on and being worn?
Re: Bluetooth headsets
MJ can work with Bluetooth headsets -- just select Bluetooth Audio for mic and speaker. However, it can't detect if the headset is turned on and in range; if it's not, both sides will hear silence.RAS108 wrote:Can MJ detect a Bluetooth headset when it is on and being worn?

Re: Bluetooth headsets
Yes, most of the times, as bluetooth headset is detected by bluetooth service and made available to any application that could use bluetooth headset. I use a couple bluetooth headsets (Samsung. Motorola) with MJ calls without any issue.RAS108 wrote:Can MJ detect a Bluetooth headset when it is on
No. MJ device doesn't have eyesRAS108 wrote:and being worn?
Re: Bluetooth headsets
How does this work? Does the Bluetooth Audio sound device appear when headset is paired and disappear when signal is lost? Even if so, while MJ might switch to another device if the Bluetooth goes away, I find it hard to believe that it would automatically switch to Bluetooth when the device appears.LikeMagic wrote:... as bluetooth headset is detected by bluetooth service and made available to any application that could use bluetooth headset.

Where do I find this bluetooth service? Couldn't find it anywhere on the softphone.

How does one 'pair' a bluetooth headset with MJ? Is there a bluetooth service on MJ and if so, where is it? I can't find any such thing when I looked for a menu entry for bluetooth options.
AFAIK....the bluetooth story goes like this:
- Your PC on which you run MJ should have a built-in bluetooth support, or you should buy a USB-Bluetooth adapter. They are available for less than $20 these days.
- The bluetooth headset / USB-Bluetooth adapter should come with software that runs on the PC and connects all the things. The most popular one is BlueSoleil (http://www.bluesoleil.com/download/).
- The software installs new sound devices in your PC. You need to set this as your sound device in your MJ setup.
- The Bluetooth software will "pair" with the Bluetooth headset, and redirects the output (and input) from MJ to the headset (and vice-versa)
Thanks for the reply, aone999. I run an Win XP Pro Athlon 64 computer. Where can I look on that for bluetooth support, provided it is there?aone999 wrote:AFAIK....the bluetooth story goes like this:Please correct me if I am wrong.

My Dell Inspiron 9400 laptop came with Bluetooth built in. There is a Bluetooth Audio device that is always present. When you first pair a new headset, you push a button on the headset to put it in pairing mode, then tell the Bluetooth software to search for devices in range. It shows an icon for the headset and you double-click it to connect. Once connected, you can use it like any sound card, e.g. play MP3s through it or use it with MJ (Bluetooth Audio appears in the list of Headset devices that you can use). If you turn the headset off or it goes out of range, MJ is not informed. Any audio output it produces gets ignored, and the input is silent. Of course, you can then tell MJ to use the telephone or the sound card again. When a previously paired headset is turned on and brought back into range, it connects automatically, but for MJ to use it you have to select Bluetooth Audio manually, if you had previously selected another device.
Your software may be smarter -- I have no other experience with Bluetooth headsets, except with cell phones.

Bluetooth headset recommendations?
Can anyone who has used BT headsets w/MJ recommend any for a newbie like me to try out on my computer setup?
Thanks
Thanks
Bluetooth headset recommendations? (Soleil Bluetooth)
I have downloaded and installed the Soleil bluetooth program to my WinXPpro computer. Question:
When I click on the BT icon I get the following menu:
'My Bluetooth Device Type' and the following choices appear:
USB
UART
PCMCIA
BCSP
What are these about and are they choices I should make or not?

Re: Bluetooth headset recommendations? (Soleil Bluetooth)
First, check if your computer has built-in (onboard) bluetooth hardware. You may refer to your computer's manual or website for this info. If it has one, it can be any of the above except USB.RAS108 wrote:I have downloaded and installed the Soleil bluetooth program to my WinXPpro computer. Question:

If your computer doesn't have built-in bluetooth (or if you are impatient to findout), buy a usb bluetooth dongle. You may get some really cheap (and not-so-good-quality, don't say I didn't warn you ) stuff at www.meritline.com.
In the second case, After plugging the USB Dongle in yor PC, select "USB" in the SoleIl program.
I just finished my setup (total time - ~10minutes) and MJ is working fine with bluetooth.
I made some test calls and everything is working fine.
- OS - VISTA Business 64Bit
- BlueSoleil version 5.0.5 for 64bit
- Bluetooth Device - TrendNetUSB Dongle (My PC doesn't have on-board bluetooth support)
- Bluetooth Headset - I have many, but I chose my Philips VOX-340 since it supports A2DP (I can listen to stereo music from my PC)
I made some test calls and everything is working fine.
Bluetooth headsets and hardware, the distance factor
Thanks, aone999 for your pointers.
Here's another situation with a question that I came across and it went like this: I live in Central Texas and I called a Canadian cousin who lives in Ontario and she could hear me very well; called a store in Marble Falls, a place just 12 miles away from me and the clerk could barely hear me at all. Have you or anyone on this forum have any ideas as to why this kind of situation could come about? Would a dongle help this case or not?
Thanks for any guidance

I think this has to do more with your internet connection than anything else.
When I use my MJ from home (I have Comcast cable), I get the best call quality. I speak to people who live in different countries and use MJ as well as other phones.
But when I use it at work (we have a very good internet connection, except that all our traffic is routed through another server in CA through VPN), the voice breaks on both ends. This happens when I speak to my wife who is less than a mile away at home.
Check your VOIP quality with some tool like http://www.testyourvoip.com/

Bluetooth on pc
Hi folks new to this site and reading thru posts while I await shipping of MJ I saw where you asked someone to check there pc for internal bluetooth.
This may help find that fast, its a Free Program called Belarc Advisor, it shows all hardware, software and applied programs and tons more.
Its very FAST and installs easy. Belarc Advisor Google finds it.

Bluetooth & MJ
For Bluetooth connectivity.........
First make sure your PC recognizes your BT. Once that has been established then go into the volume control settings of the MJ and select the feature that matches Bluetooth.
MJ does not switch automatically, so you will still need to be near your PC for starting/ending/receiving calls. The further away from the PC, the poorer the reception will be with the BT.
Now I have a question.....Anyone know how to improve the sound quality? I get alot of echoing and stuttering sound when I use a phone so I just tend to use mic/headset for best quality.

You can't unspeak a spoken word, nor can you unscramble a scrambled egg.
Re: Bluetooth & MJ
People have had different results with different brands and models of phones. Corded phones seem to be more consistent across brands. Cordless phones vary more, some work better than others. Search the forum for a discussion on cordless phones for which ones work better than others.GoNavyMike wrote:Now I have a question.....Anyone know how to improve the sound quality? Updated: Also search the forum for tips on improving the sound quality, things like using a wired Internet connection vs. wifi, doing a voip test to see if your Internet service can sustain a steady stream of data, etc. There is a separate MagicJack wiki with more info including how to choose a different proxy server that has less load. I have a NYC number but use I think the Phoenix proxy server which improved my call quality.

Bluetooth Headset
Based on the recomendation of another user here I purchased a Motorola M200 bluetooth dongle over a year ago. It was plug and play no drivers needed.
I use my Motorola 820 buletooth headset (same one I use with my cellphone) and it works great.
One thing you need to know is that none of them I am aware of will do more than simply provide audio in and out function for MJ. That is you'll have to use the softphone to control calls.

You need to put your bluetooth headset in pairing mode first ( please read the headset manual how to do it, as different models have different way )harshwardhan_h wrote:I have a bluetooth soleil adapter. It gets paired with my bluetooth headset(Nokia BH-104).

-Run Bluetooth icon on taskbar Windows > Add a new device
-Windows will automatically pickup any bluetooth devices which are in range ( those devices must be in pairing mode when Windows searching )
-When Windows found a new device, click on that device, it will ask you to enter the device codes into the box - this could be 0000 or something specific depending on the factory setting - press Enter
If you follow these steps and enter your headset's code correctly, your headset is now connected and Windows will add your bluetooth headset in Audio Devices tab.
-Go to Control Panel > Sound > Playback > choose Bluetooth headset as Default device. Do the same with Recording tab.
-Go to MJ softphone and choose Headset instead of Tigerjet telephone Handset ( or something like that I dont remember, I run ATA now) and try to place a call to see if the sound goes through bluetooth headset, both input and output.
These steps are for Windows 7. Win XP or else might be somewhat different on name ( Audio instead of Sound etc..), but basically it should be similar.
Hope it helps
