Whats the deal with the ad-ware on MJ?
The MJ is advertised as no software is installed on your computer because it runs of the MJ. But I read about a lot of people complaining (in an other Forum) about MJ putting all kinds of Spam on your PC. So which one is it now? Does it install on the PC with Ad-ware or does the program run of the MJ?

The only adware that I am aware of is the software itself, which is in the dangle. I've done spyware and adware searches on my computer and never found anything. Furthermore, the only ads that pop up are in the little window on the soft phone, which means you never have to see them if you don't want. There are dozens of people playing the role of Chicken Little all over the web, which is nothing new, but does give the impression that MagicJack somehow takes over your computer. I am yet to substantiate these claims using several different programs to seek out and find where my computer has been compromised.
Windows Vista and Laptop with XP SP2 on the road. Occasionally, a Mac if my Windows machine isn't working.

This is what I thought when I read it, but then those computer illiterate people want to spread rumors. I wish they would have done their research like smart people (like me ) do, instead of scaring people away from a product just because they may not liked it, because they have no clue how to use it. As long as the ads are in the softphone screen I really don't care because every website has ads and that means if they don't like it they might as well don't use the internet all together. lol. Well thanks again for clearing that up for me!strndedinalska wrote:The only adware that I am aware of is the software itself, which is in the dangle. Four years of SBC/Yahoo taught me a gazillion lessons about spyware. Now, I'm as paranoid as George Bush when he sits awake at night thinking that Bin Laden is hiding under his bed.magicJon wrote:Agreed. I keep a very, very close eye on my PCs and I constantly monitor all programs that get loaded. Nothing runs without me knowing about it and without my permission. The MJ has not attempted to install or run any programs that I would deem spyware, adware, or otherwise questionable.

Read this post, just some food for thought ... (not necessarily adware ... but possibly a rootkit?? Hmm)

strndedinalska... can you elaborate?
SBC/Yahoo is laden with web beacons that watch your every move and publish your information. I went from having no e-mail to every . site in the country sending me e-mail. I couldn't stop it once it started either because the data mining they do is beyond belief. On average, I'd get no fewer than ten or fifteen e-mails a day spamming me for one thing or another. Just for kicks, I checked my old e-mail three months after I left SBC/Yahoo and counted 2300 (yes, 2,300) e-mails and every one of them was junk from sites I never visited or spammers promising to enlarge my penis four hat sizes for three easy monthly payments. I won't make that mistake again.
Oh, and I almost forgot. I also had a few that said I could buy a $500,000 house for as little as $99 a month. There was all sorts of trash in there. Now that I've switched carriers, I haven't had more than two or three spam mails a week, let alone 10 to 15 a day.
