Getting Started - MJ works on some computers, but not mine

Post by magicmatt »

I tried doing a few searches here but nothing seems to fit my problem.

I just got the MJ and it works fine on my GF's laptop connected to my internet, but when I plug in the MJ to my desktop it does not work. Here are as many details as I can think of- if anyone has any ideas or similar problems let me know how you got it resolved.

-I plug it in and the blue light comes on, I can see 2 drives for MagicJack in 'my computer'
-Autoplay does not run so I run it manually - nothing happens
-I went to 'magicfix' and it found no problems, running the upgrade did nothing- it did not complete, only started and crashed as far as I can tell.
-I tried uplugging it and putting it into different usb ports a dozen times...
-I tried removing the few MJ files that actually transfer to my hard drive to reinstall...nothing
-I tried disabling Norton and firewall - this did not help.
-I tried formating the MJ and reinstalling software- this could only be done on a different computer

So basically, none of the MJ software is running. I used to have MusicMatch jukebox installed and I found several folders that I deleted that were not removed by the un-install. I also had to delete a bunch of Nero files. I tried using tech support twice but they have not been very helpful.

Thanks in advance

Install and run this diagnostic: http://tjnet.com/software/download/voip ... up1313.exe . Does it find your MJ? Show keys pressed when you pick up phone and push number buttons? Audio test work?

Double-click the autorun.exe file in the root of the MJ pseudo CD-ROM. What displays? Any error messages?

After running the autorun, do you have an mjusbsp folder on your hard drive? Does it contain a magicjack.exe file?

OS version and service pack?

Thanks for the idea Stewart, I actually just figured out how to run the software. It was pretty simple and I am very annoyed that neither support or the magic jack website listed this anywhere.

To get my Magic Jack software to install and run for the first time on this PC, I had to go to ..

C:\Documents and Settings\ UserName \Application Data\mjusbsp\ar00000 ... and run the setup file located there.

Not sure why my situation was so screwy, but it's working on my pc perfectly now.
