Fun with regedit and Speed Dial

Post by TreasureGift »

I was poking around in my registry, I searched for "magic", just to see what would come up, I was really looking for something about the sound, mainly the outgoing sound, to find out why the sound volume for MJ is reset each time I reboot, anyhoo, while poking around, I found a place called "talk4free", in there I found a thing called "SpeedDial", just for grins, I added a couple of phone numbers in it, rebooted my computer, started MJ, and clicked on the 2 key shortcut for the numbers I added, IT WORKS! I looked around on the softphone and didn't find anything about speed dial, so I don't believe you can do it from the softphone program.

Here is how I found it:

I am NOT responsible if you mess up your stuff, do this at your own risk, if you aren't comfortable messing around with your registry, DON'T DO IT.

1. Click on the Start button on your browser
2. Click on "run"
3. Type in "regedit" (without the quotes)
4. Go to: Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\talk4free\USB Softphone\SpeedDial
5. You should see Alt-#, Alt-*, Alt-0, Alt-1..., just doubleclick on one, (I chose the ones with numbers, not the symbols * and #), add a phone number in "value data" and click on OK. Remember which one you added the number to, Alt-0 or whichever one you chose.
6. Close the registry editor
7. Reboot your computer
8. When MJ starts up, click Alt 0 (pr whatever one you chose), and it should dial the number you assigned to that one.

I am running Windows Vista, home version.

I'm going in and adding my most called phone numbers.

I'm also looking at the other things listed in the talk4free registry, has anyone else edited other things there?

I wonder if changing some of these values, we could improve the audio quality... anyone tried this?

I was reading the pdf file from SJphone User Guide, it seems there is a way to adjust something that helps with jitter, this is a known issue with MJ, it certainly affects me, I have lots of bandwidth, but I have problems with jitter, I wonder if changing this might help...
