I can't do 7-digit dialing within the same area code (719)

Post by nickel »

I just got one of the new 719 area code numbers for my MJ. The only prefix offered right now is 646. I can call the MJ from my POTS line with 7-digit dialing, but I can't call out on the MJ to my POTS line unless I use 10-digit dialing. Is this normal?

Besides that, when I tried to figure this out with the Live Chat support person, the session got abruptly terminated. Do you guys know how I can escalate this?

Chat InformationYou are now chatting with 'Jessica'

Jessica: Hello, how may I help you?

Jon: Hi Jessica

Jessica: Hi Jon how are you?

Jon: Just a little bit ago I was excited to see that you finally have 719 numbers. So I changed my MJ to one of the available ones. But when I dial out using the MJ to another 719 number (my current house phone), I get a recording that I must dial a 1 and the area code.

Jon: I shouldn't have to do that because I'm calling from 719 to 719.

Jessica: Jon may I know the number you are trying to reach please?

Jon: 719-XXX-XXXX

Jessica: Jon are they outside your living area?

Jon: The XXX number is my POTS line. The 646 is the MJ. They are 12 inches away from each other.

Jon: It works in reverse... I can dial from the XXX number to the 646 MJ without having to use the area code. But I can't call from the 646 MJ to the XXX POTS without the area code.

Jessica: Please dial 1 plus the 10 digit number.

Jon: right, that works

Jessica: Jon please trry to dial including the area code.

Jessica: Thats great.

Jessica: Is there anything else I may help you with today?

Jon: I need to be able to do 7 digit dialing within the same area code.

Jon: It is not acceptable that I would need to do 10 digit dialing.

Jessica: Jon you need to dial the 10 digit numberr including the area code.

Jon: Why?

Jessica: For you to be able to call local not charge long distance.

Jon: Are you saying 646 is not local to XXX? Why would that matter on the MJ when I'm paying for a license that allows local and long distance calls in the U.S.?

Jessica: Yes you need to dial the 10 digit number Jon. Area code is very importand in making and receiving a call.

Jon: That's not an acceptable answer. It doesn't solve my problem.

Jon: I need a 719 number that can call all the other 719 numbers without requiring 10 digit dialing. Please fix this for my 719-646 number.

Well, here's some follow up. I "called back" to the live support people:

You are now chatting with 'Charlin'

Charlin: Hello, how may I help you?

Jon: Hi Charlin, I'm a polite person. I've worked as a phone support person, so I'm sensitive to the people who can sometimes be jerks. So that's not me. But I just got rudely disconnected from a chat session with "Jessica". How can I escalate?

Charlin: I do apologize for the inconvenience it caused to you Jon.

Charlin: Please hold on, I will check if Jessica is available.

Jon: Well, it'd be better to talk to her supervisor at this point.

Charlin: Okay Jon, I will transfer you to a supervisor.

Jon: Thank you

Charlin: You are welcome

Charlin: Thank you for your patience. I will transfer you to a higher level of support. Please hold while I transfer you.

Chat InformationPlease wait while I transfer the chat to the best suited site operator.

Chat InformationYou are now chatting with 'George'

Jon: Hi George

George: Hi Jon, how are you ?

Jon: I'm not sure how many Jessica's you have, but the one I was just talking to didn't seem to want to solve my issue and just terminated the session.

Jon: Are you able to go "off script" to try and handle my issue?

Jon: Here's what I first told Jessica - "Just a little bit ago I was excited to see that you finally have 719 numbers. So I changed my MJ to one of the available ones. But when I dial out using the MJ to another 719 number (my current house phone), I get a recording that I must dial a 1 and the area code."

George: Jon, we have added new facilities with magicjack. Due to which you have to add 1 and area code with magicjack temporarily.

George: YOu may make the calls again without the area code very shortly.

Jon: Is this related to the 719 numbers being so new?

George: No,

Jon: What's a fair amount of time to give you guys before contacting you again about this?

George: Jon, it will be corrected very soon.

George: Is there anything else I may help you with today?

Jon: Maybe you could let Jessica know that it's not polite to disconnect people before their issue is resolved. Thanks.

Jon: Have a great rest of the day!

If your phone has 'speed dial' buttons, program one with 719; that would allow you to make local calls by pressing eight buttons. If not, you may be able to call most 719 numbers by dialing *** after the number, which you may find a little easier than dialing 719 first.
