MJ cuts out when talking on the phone
I have two MJs. I have been using both for about three months. Both of them continue to work fine when one or the other is hooked to my PC.
However, when hooked to my laptop they cut out while talking to someone. Up until earlier this week my MJs worked fine on my laptop. The only change was that I changed DSL providers from verizon to Cewntury tel. I can't see how that could be an issue since they both work on my pc. I have a Toshiba Satellite A105 and linksys router. Anybody have any ideas?

dant2... don't know if this will help, but I was using my MJ on my laptop at work connected via the internal wireless to the company internet. About half the time it would drop the connection before completing it. This was particularly annoying since it was usually received as a "hang up" by the person on the other end.
Someone asked if I was using a 2.4 ghz cordless phone. (I am.) I switched to a Uniden DECT 6.0, which fixed the problem but the outgoing volume was too low. Don't know if the DECT 6.0 is the problem or not but I later connected via cable, went back to my original phone and now everything is perfect. Well, almost.
Some of the more technical types here can probably help, but they may need more information.

"A little knowledge is a dangerous thing."
I wasn't going to respond, because there are so many more qualified folks here, but I thought I could at least offer what works for me. When I have connection problems, I change proxy servers until I find one that gives me a good connection. Might be something to consider if you haven't already.

If your laptop is connected to the router wirelessly, test with a wired connection (be sure that the wireless link is disconnected). When you switched ISPs, what changes did you make? Did you install any software from them? Router configuration changes? Have a new modem? If so, is the new one configured as a router?
Can you see the trouble when testing to Boston at http://www.testyourvoip.com/ ? (Since this test runs only 15 seconds, and you sometimes go 30 seconds between dropouts, repeat the test several times.)
While on a call run a in a command prompt. See if you get timeouts and/or long ping times, when you hear the dropouts. (Since the ping happens only once per second, some dropouts may happen between pings, so wait for several dropouts before concluding that the pings are not affected.)

ping -t yahoo.com
While connected ping was running 90 to 96 MS when drop out occurred it jumped to 477 ms then went back down....I have no idea what this means other than the ping took longer at the dropout which would be expected...right?Stewart wrote:If your laptop is connected to the router wirelessly, test with a wired connection (be sure that the wireless link is disconnected). Only change was user name and password to linksys router. No other software was installed. It is a different modem then before but both of the MJs work with my PC which uses the same connection. Both give me the dropouts on the laptop. PC and laptop are both on XP. Will try wired and post results.

I ran this test three times but I'm not sure what to look for. However on the third try I noted packet loss of .047% to Boston and 023 % from Boston. The first two tests showed no losses.
