Receiving Calls ?

Post by Drakkor »

Got my magicjack yesterday, and have been testing it. I can make out going calls, but it seems there's a problem with receiving them. What should happen on my end ? Will my phone actually ring, or just a pop-up on my computer? Does the other person have to dial the 10 digit number ? (area code + 7 digit). It seems like I'm having problems receiving calls. Thanks !

Have you tried to make a call to your MJ from your cell phone?
Has anyone tried to call you?
From your post I don't see where you tried to call your MJ number to test it.
Do so and then you will know what it is or not doing.

I had a friend try to call me, but nothing happened, I did get a voicemail message of someone that called last night. But it seems that my phone doesn't ring.

Receiving calls

Post by dodools »

I am having simular problems. Except I purchased two MJ's. Each were registered on the same computer one at a time. Each has seperate phone numbers. One receives and sends calls with no problems the other for the most will not receive calls. When I say does not receive calls I mean the phone will not ring nor will the display software indicate a incoming call. From the test phone (my cell phone) there is a recorded message saying the call could not go through please try again later. Working with the MJ tech support for several hours seemed to help but in the end had negative results. They (MJ tech's) could call from within their network and the MJ would receive the call, the phone would ring and the CID would diplay on the computer screen. They tried to claim that some phone carriers do not work well with MJ. If this were true then why does the one MJ work very well with the same carrier? To prove or disprove their thesis I peformed over 20 plus test calls to each MJ using the same cell (Sprint). The one that I stated work, works well, never missed one incoming call. The other missed all 20 test calls. My suspect it may be the handshake between MJ's Gateway servers and the domain? This has not been resolved, right now I am waiting on a replacement MJ to rule out the MJ itself. Also I have tried testing on other computers and also other IPS with the same results, no luck. Will floow up later when the replacement comes in.

Do both MJs have the same area code, exchange code, and thousands digit (e.g. both are 443-982-9xxx)? If not, the techs may be right -- the cellular carrier might have a bad routing entry. In that case, test from e.g. a landline or cell phone from another carrier. If that works, call the cellular company and tell them that you are having trouble reaching a certain number; they should be able to fix it within a couple of days.
